Stiffed: Obama Center fails to pay contractor, who’s forced to shut down operation

Barack Obama’s presidential library opened a few weeks ago with a star-studded celebration, and ongoing criticisms about its Star Wars-prison appearance and failure to pay contractors who worked on the monolith project.

Now one subcontractor has shut down operations because the project manager has refused to pay for work that was done on the project.

A report at Fox News outlines how Mike Owen, owner of Adamson Plumbing Contractors, confirmed his company was on the verge of collapse because of payments that were due, but never were made.

“Laying off close to 30 people is something that no owner in our industry wants to do,” Owen told the publication. “It’s a hard thing to do, especially when you know you can finish them and the company can still make money. But we were put in a pretty bad corner.”

He confirmed the company had to abandon a number of other projects because of the Obama center financial fallout.

Adamson did work at the center under the name Marsh-Adamson and has filed a $1.72 million mechanic’s lien against the property, putting the dispute over payments into the courts.

But, but, but, he was the first African-American president!

Why should he need to pay his just debts like everyone else?

We need more information. I am sure the news media will bury this

When I saw the owners photo, the non payment issue became clear.

Trump has done more than his fair share of stiffing contractors.

Trump has done more than his fair share of stiffing contractors. And exactly how do you know this? It's easy to run your mouth when there's no one at the wheel.

All Obama ever had to do was put a (D) next to his name to be as righteous as the driven snow.
Those same people loved Trump until he put an (R) next to his.

My experience with government-funded projects is small beans compared to this, but those of you claiming the contractor must have done something wrong are in error

There are numerous ways that payments trickling down to contractors are delayed for reasons entirely unrelated to performance of that contractor’s work. The sheer complexity and scheduling of the different trades builds in delays separate than an individual contractor’s scope of work. Despite progress payments, you might be strung out for many months waiting for the next phase to proceed, and your cash flow is cut off completely.

Yes, contractor’s f*ck up and the blame game is virulent among the trades on a project, but the worst f*ck ups come from above.

I’m a female, sole owner who never sought minority woman-owned business status because I don’t believe in it. I could have obtained accreditation and made a lot,but my mind is too simple and I’m not assertive enough to thrive in that environment.

“Donald Trump has a documented history of being sued by hundreds of contractors and hourly workers alleging he refused to pay them in full for their work. Investigations, including a sweeping review by USA Today, identified at least 60 lawsuits and hundreds of liens from plumbers, painters, and small business owners who claimed they were stiffed.According to contractor testimonies, the Trump Organization would often offer only a fraction of the agreed-upon amount upon a project’s completion, citing dissatisfaction, and dare the companies to sue for the rest. This tactic was particularly prominent during the construction of his Atlantic City casinos like the Trump Taj Mahal, where dozens of contractors and glass, paint, and cabinet companies reported massive financial losses. While Trump’s representatives have historically defended these actions by arguing that the organization only refuses payment to contractors who perform poor work, many of these disputes resulted in settlements where workers received significantly less than they were owed.”

Well, Obama WAS who we all were waiting for. Key word “waiting”.

We are still waiting for Al Sharpton to pay all his back due taxes.

We are waiting for the plane to come and deport Ilhan Omar.

This guy could be waiting on payment for a very long time.

“Stiffed: Obama Center fails to pay contractor, who’s forced to shut down operation”. They should feel lucky right? They got to build the magic one’s multi-story shit house.

:I love to hold back and negotiate when people don’t do good work” and “I’ll deduct from their contract, absolutely. that’s what the country should be doing.” Donald Trump

Not every contractor was unpaid- many reported being paid fully and being willing to work with him again. Trump has claimed the ratio of satisfied to dissatisfied is overwhelmingly positive.
