Violent threats against AI companies are rising and spilling over into real-world security incidents
SAN FRANCISCO—A security guard at Anthropic rushed to stop the man sneaking into the lobby of the world’s most-valuable AI startup.
The man had entered by following closely behind a badge-swiping employee. He showed the guard an envelope marked with the name of a top Anthropic executive.
The executive was “going to be killed,” he told the guard, and he needed to warn someone, according to records of the April 15 incident viewed by The Wall Street Journal.
The encounter, which took place five days after an attempted firebombing of OpenAI Chief Executive Officer Sam Altman’s house, ended without violence or an arrest. But for executives at Anthropic—and across the artificial-intelligence industry—the threat was far from over.
In recent months, mounting opposition to AI has given rise to a surge of violent rhetoric, threats against people and property, and a serious attempt at harm. The phenomenon has executives at tech companies large and small reconsidering their personal security arrangements and how they talk about their products to a public that is increasingly wary of the technology and the societal changes it is ushering in.
Police in San Francisco have responded to several threats against employees of Anthropic and OpenAI, according to records viewed by the Journal.
The Texas man who allegedly threw an incendiary device at Altman’s house was charged with attempted murder and attempted arson. Officers found a manifesto advocating for the killing of AI CEOs and investors. He pleaded not guilty.
That same month, a man who had applied for a job at Anthropic using a fake name allegedly posted a threat to skin the children of company employees as “punishment” for what he alleged was the theft of...

So... How many Shares do you own?
Thank you for the analysis. We may not like not having to work.
Or, we may not like a society of extreme prosperity.
Musk thinks a high level AI will keep humans around because we are interesting.
It could happen.
ZERO
Absolutely.
But it has become easy to spot the AI slop on YouBoob. It's so common now that you have to assume what you are seeing is AI unless you can prove to yourself that it is human-generated.
Giveaways are grammar mistakes, mis-pronounced words, images that have glaring factual and historical errors, continuity failures between scenes, and the like.
As long as this slop garners massive numbers of views, Google is happy to pay for it.
Artificial? Yes. Intelligence? Rarely.
Surprising, because in my observations the last couple years there are only two types of Individuals who support and defend AI. Those who are personally invested in it and/or those who are ignorant to the true reality of the cause and effect end game. I was giving you the benefit of the doubt and assuming the first not the latter. Apparently I was wrong in my assumption...
Content revenue is paid by “engagement time.” The longer they can keep you watching, the more money they make. That’s why so many videos are just clickbait with exceptionally long build ups to get to the point of the video. Once you know how to identify it, you realize most videos are absolute garbage. It’s all slop, even if it’s not AI generated. Even humans are “engagement farming” by making 3 minute videos with the actual subject/point of the video being in the last 20-30 seconds. It’s absurd.
Ditto on labeling AI. Youtube is so filled with AI trash that it is getting hard to find real content.
Not "totally embraced", but accepted when it makes sense to do so.
Example...my last 2 visits to my dentist, he used AI to analyze the x-rays and twice AI supposedly discovered unresolved problems. Both times he did an actual examination and said AI was wrong and there was nothing that needed attention.
Remember when Ronald Reagan said, "trust but verify"?
He was right.
I would posit that they do intend for SOME humans —they themselves— to survive it, so that they might rule over the ‘utopia’ they perversely envision.
Hopefully, this will curb their leftist voting habits.
I was a computer engineer most of my working career and like to embrace technology and i recognize when technology will be adopted and there is nothing that can be done to stop it and choose to make the best of it
AI will be used by some for evil things but it will also be used for incredible things that advance humanity, this has been true of many things when technology has made incredible progress, it didn’t stop it back then, it won’t stop it now
I watched this trailer. Unfortunately, this AI generated cast, especially the female faces, are “Instagram faces”. Completely anachronistic human features, and styling for a period drama.
It’s primitive now, in 4-5 years maybe sooner with better tools and more experience, small groups of talented individuals will rival anything Hollywood can produce for a fraction on the dollar.
Hollywood has decades of movie production experience, AI producers are just getting started, I would imagine many in Hollywood are already working on ways to compete with a revolution in technology
The evil is going to far far outweigh the good. Here is an excellent summary of how it will be used. So what little good is going to be traded for total digital enslavement. Please humor me and actually read it. It is spot on and covers all of it based on real cause and effect.
The Authentication Layer

These are all opinions with no real history to support them.
If that’s what you believe, no problem, I just don’t buy it.
Remember the first thing nuclear that people knew about was the 2 bombs we dropped on Japan, which killed thousands and brought the war to an end.
Then nuclear power was used to provide cheap reliable energy to hundreds of millions of people, along with powering the US Navy which allows to operate in ways no other nation can match..
Has nuclear power been used as a plus or minus for humanity.
It’s the same concept as air travel, millions of people travel around the world on a daily basis, while countries around the world use airplanes to kill people, we are now bombing the crap out of Iran, occasionally a plane crashes and kills everyone on board, should we end air travel because some die while others travel freely around the world.
Not me or you knows for sure what AI will develop into, I do know for sure, it’s not going away.
You will see... Folks like you are just Deer in the headlights. And being a tech yourself I am surprised you do not already see it happening. AI is already determining who gets or doesn’t get needed procedures in healthcare. It is already collecting data for your personal “obedience” score. It is already collecting your driving habits to adjust your auto insurance rates. It is already altering history from the reality. Everything on the net is an illusion because it is corrupted with AI. We don’t even know who is real and who is not. And it is just beginning. Every little aspect of our lives is going to be micromanaged and digitally punished. And the only way they can do it is by using the computing power of AI and these Data Centers.
This is one of the bad things about FR, we have a difference in opinion, and you want to throw out insults about me being a deer in the headlights.
There is nothing that is happening right at this moment that wasn’t already happening with existing technology prior to the introduction of AI.
Even if you don’t trust AI going forward, it’s going to happen and it’s going to happen rapidly.
You didn’t read that did you? It explains what will different from what we had before.
I read what someone’s opinion about how things might turn out, doesn’t make it true.
I’ve consistently said, yes, AI will result in bad things being done, it will also result in a lot of great things that advance the human experience, either you didn’t read that or refuse to accept that, which is fine.
“we must embrace it and use it for good.”
That is just like someone who is incarcerated saying “Look at the bright side, maybe they will feed us a hot lunch for a change.”
Hot lunch is not the point, being incarcerated is the point. There is absolutely nothing good if you are incarcerated.
