From the comments: “Sometimes i get this weird feeling that this civilization was somehow ahead of ours... not in a technological way.. but in some other aspects we have forgotten......”
Yeah...the hanging d*cks were a dead giveaway...
Pompeii is awesome but you do need to visit the Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli in Naples to appreciate all you see.
I love the posts. Thank you!
That's an amazing museum.
Thanks for your interest and the kind remarks!
The first time I went there I was 21, touring Europe with two other female art school friends. We entered one room where there was a beautifully done, larger-than-life marble figure of a nude male fighter, but there was a hole where his male member should have been. A leering old guard saw us snickering behind our hands, came into the room, opened a drawer, took out a large marble phallus and inserted it in the hole, standing at attention.
This was just before the Youth Rebellion of the Sixties had hit southern Europe, and I think he thought we would be somewhat scandalized. And although we were nice girls, we had just spent the prior years drawing and painting from nude models, so we just shrugged and laughed!
“Americans!”
I'm sure he can, but I'm glad he sticks to acting mostly.
