James Gunn was supposed to revamp and revitalize DC Studios at Warner Bros. The director of "Guardians of the Galaxy" would, in theory, bring the type of overarching creative vision that Kevin Feige had so successfully demonstrated at Marvel Studios.
Two movies into Gunn's vision of DC Studios, it's safe to say that this reboot has been an unmitigated failure.
The 2025 edition of "Superman" was, at best, a moderate success. While hardly the type of franchise-changing success the studio and Gunn hoped for, box office results and reviews were acceptable, if not a bit underwhelming. Thanks in some part to Gunn's bewildering decision to tell audiences that the film was about politics, calling the Superman character an "immigrant."
But the real test for Gunn's reboot and the power of the DC Studios brand was the follow-up film, "Supergirl," starring Milly Alcock. And boy has it failed the test.
Alcock spent most of the press campaign making herself as unlikeable as possible, insulting potential moviegoers, bizarrely claiming that audiences felt "ownership" of her body, then doubling down after the inevitable backlash. The trailers looked awful, with a predictably sloppy anti-hero feel, atrocious visual effects, and an uninteresting plot and villain.
Still, as recently as May, hopes were that "Supergirl" could make as much as $65 million in its opening weekend. In actuality? It made just over $37 million.
With a production budget of $175 million, and a massive marketing campaign that likely cost Warner Bros. at least $100 million, the film needed to reach at least $450-500 million globally to break even. That opening weekend, and an anemic international debut, meant it was tracking towards a significant loss. The only hope? That positive word of mouth would overcome the apathy towards the film's plot and the off-putting remarks from Alcock.

Supergirl looks like she’s missing a chromosome.
Bwahahaha
Not only that, if you wait a few weeks, these big Hollywood productions come up on the streaming platforms. My whole family can watch for the price of one admission.
The area around our local theater has been taken over by “buskers” - blasting rap music and dancing around for tips - making for a very unpleasant experience.
Haven’t been in a movie theater since 2019, have no plans to return - especially given the insulting, woke crap Hollywood keeps churning out.
I’m no quitter...
If only:
Heck, it would probably get swamped by Young Frankenstein, a 52 year old movie!..............
Movies are made to promote an idea. The story line is incidental and serves only to grab your attention and persuade you to suspend your disbelief so that it can get you to accept its premise.
The public has rejected the premise that girls can do anything men can do, and the movie’s numbers at the box office reflect that.
Back in Hollywood’s Golden Age of the big studios and actors under contracts, they were not allowed to speak anything in public without clearance from the PR department. Sam Goldwyn, Louis Mayer and other studio head knew that losing half your audience to some stupid political stunt would be the box office poison for them. Maybe the studios should go back to that system. Tell the actors to keep their mouths shut and act!................
She looks like the Feral boy on "The Road Warrior."
She was not tall enough. Not pretty enough. And too obnoxious.

And... it’s not just a matter of bad PR due to political bias. It’s also a huge problem of politically biased DEI casting. Obviously, the studios are being destroyed from within by their very own DEI leftist corporate stooges. And they just can’t help destroying everything they touch or get close to. It’s how leftists roll.
One can only wonder how much better the ratings would have been had they cast Sydney Sweeney in the roll, instead. But no, that woulda have been too pro-MAGA (too pro-America). Can’t have that.
He should try

UGLY IS BEAUTIFUL.
AND BEAUTIFUL IS UGLY.
I've been hearing that for years. It is lazy thinking and not accurate at all. Crappy Super Hero movies are dead. Good ones still work.
They were saying "Superhero Fatigue" years ago, and then "Spider Man No Way Home" came out, and was a huge success.
They said that was a fluke, and then "Deadpool vs Wolverine" came out, and it was a huge success.
People aren't tired of Super Hero movies. They are tired of shitty, obnoxious Super Hero movies.
Stop making it about Women, gays, and blacks, and start treating it more realistic, write good scripts and leave out "the message", and people are perfectly willing to watch Super Hero movies.
Is that a joke? That's disgusting, and I would want to beat on people that put such a thing on screen.
THAT’s who she reminds me of! Thank you!
General rule of thumb is that marketing costs (paying for advertising on TV and elsewhere) is usually around the same cost as production.
So if you pay $250 million in production, your marketing costs are going to be somewhere near there.
Saw it Saturday night. I liked it quite a lot.
Hollywood has been dead for a long time.
The upcoming release of “The Odyssey” should be a historic flop financially.
Hollywood is incapable of learning. They are currently hoplelessly retarded with a collective IQ of 10.
Last night I watched a couple of old movies. The first was a corny old Disney film from 1974 with James Garner called, “Castaway Cowboy” where he is an 1880s cowboy shipwrecked in Hawaii and ends up helping a lady save her family farm by teaching the locals to round up wild cattle they then sell. Sappy, corny and just nice wholesome entertainment. Far from the best movie I ever saw but it held my attention from beginning to end and not a single woke thing in the movie.
The next movie was another also ran from the 1980s called “The Last Fling” where John Ritters is tired of sleeping around and crossed paths with Connie Seleca and it is love at first sight, but she is engaged to be married. Again, a nothing movie that just lightly entertains from beginning to the end with nothing objectionable or woke and insulting.
I wouldn’t have thought twice about these films if I had seem them the year they were released. Instead, compared to the cesspool of rancid tripe Hollywood is pumping out today, these were veritable gems. Nothing special really but still an enjoyable time to spend 90 minutes of entertainment that satisfies.
Hollywood is dead and burned to cinders on its funeral pyre. They should just close up shop and call it a day. I still have plenty of old movies to watch that don’t crush my soul, insuld my intelligence, and demonize me the way modern Hollywood films do.
It has been hilarious watching Supergirl crash and burn, and The Odyssey will be just as hilarious to watch flop.
