I hope this gets rid of the “hospitalist” who wanders the corridors, drops into patient rooms, says “Hello! How are you?” and charges patients $500.
The growth of healthcare insurers has surged into a thriving market by placing doctors in the crosshairs and determining what they will pay for the patient during treatment.
It is not an all encompassing contract to treat whatever the patient thinks they need. The contracts cover what they say they will cover and it doesn’t always mean every malady for free. The patient signs the contract and thinks they are covered for illness that are not covered. It was added to by the ACA determining pre-existing conditions must be treated and so the healthcare insurance people raised the charges to pay for them when they didn’t prior to the addition. Should have read it before congress signed it. But they don’t care, they don’t use it. They have their own.

We need to bring back the independent medical practice.
Offer incentives, tax, legal, regulatory et al to professionals willing to do that.
When someone sees a provider who works for a health system, you’re the patient, but that provider does not work for you.
That provider works for the health system signing his or her paychecks.
And that health system likely has higher priorities than your well-being.
