Karmelo Anthony, the Texas man convicted of stabbing a star athlete to death at a high school track meet, is asking the court to appoint a free public defender for his appeal, despite his family raising more than a half million dollars in funds for his legal fees. ...
In the days following his conviction, Anthony filed a notice of appeal of the guilty verdict and requested a court-appointed public defender, claiming that he is a "penniless, destitute and indigent person" that is "too poor to employ counsel," according to court documents ...
The request from Anthony comes after a GiveSendGo fundraiser created to help pay for his legal fees and other expenses raised around $634,000 – nearly half of its $1.4 million goal.
... "While legal defense is a critical part of this journey, we want to make it clear that this fund is not solely dedicated to legal expenses. The funds raised will also support a range of urgent and necessary means that have emerged as a result of the situation, including – but not limited to – the safe relocation of the Anthony family due to escalating threats to their safety and well-being, as well as basic living costs, transportation, counseling, and other security measures."
Convicted Killer Karmelo Anthony's Family Used Fundraiser Money For Moving And Living Expenses ...
According to GiveSendGo's website, fundraisers created to aid in legal defense costs for violent charges "must clearly state that all funds raised are intended solely for legal defense costs."
"Fundraisers in this category cannot be used to raise funds for personal support, living expenses, or other purposes alongside legal defense," the website stated.
Additionally, funds must be sent directly to a licensed attorney involved in the defense, and cannot be distributed to the defendant or organizer.

$640K for a 7 day trial, with virtually no witnesses and a weak defense strategy, just to get 35 year sentence.
Probably could have got a 25 year plea bargain for nothing with public defender.
with these fundraisers?
Whose money is it?
Is it his money?
Or his parents?
CPAs?
LeBron is a tool for the CCP.
Great ain’t it?
Yes, it is great. It's a big help to people wrongly convicted.
That it also helps murderous scumbags is an unfortunate side-effect.
Nobody is compelled to give.
He is (or was) finance mgr for a new car dealer.
No one listens to the testimony of witnesses who were actually there?
As far as James, his little “academy “ won’t be forgotten for this incident :
“The 17-year-old Liming was found beaten to death near the I Promise School last week. Two brothers and their cousin were all taken into custody Saturday morning.” …
“Investigators believe he and others became involved in an altercation after one group of individuals fired a SplatRBall gun at another group playing basketball, and that Ethan was knocked unconscious and brutally assaulted in the scuffle.
“My son died because of a toy,” Ethan’s father Bill told 3News earlier this week, “and just goofing around as a teenager.” (Water pellets shot by Ethan’s passengers who were black)
They received light sentence because they claimed self defense.
They used a private lawyer, but it doesn’t seem like they spent $100K, much less $600K.
They did pretty well with the jury sentencing, and maybe about the same as if he had pled guilty.
The facts were really weak, but that lawyer didn’t get good publicity. Who would hire him after seeing that? But it wasn’t mainly his fault.
Ridiculous to go to trial claiming self defense, when the defendant didn’t testify and the defense witnesses didn’t say it was self defense.
“Nobody is compelled to give.”
Then you don’t know how many black people think.
Interesting. Degree in accounting? Doubt it. MSM puffing up his resume?
I am sure there are plenty of wealthy black attorneys like Ben Crump who would be “happy” and “honored” to work on an appeal for this thug on a pro-bono basis. Let’s see how many, if any, step up.
I doubt if any of these wealthy black attorneys actually work “pro bono”. There’s got to be a payoff somewhere or they’ll do no more then make noise if that.
This family has been grifting for years and years. There should be plenty to go after.
I know very well how they “think” ... the vast majority are ignorant race bigots. Rich or poor, highly educated or not, their mentality is “race first, all else is irrelevant”. But they’re not compelled ... they’re freely doing what they believe is right. The same, of course, could have been said for a lot of prison guards and secret police agents in history’s most infamous totalitarian regimes.
