Killer Karmelo Anthony has been found guilty of murder for the fatal stabbing of Austin Metcalf at a Texas high school track meet.
Anthony, now 19, sobbed, and his family burst into tears as the judge read the verdict on Tuesday.
The jury deliberated for less than three hours after the defense and prosecution delivered closing arguments.
Anthony claimed he was acting in self-defense when he stabbed Metcalf, 17, with a folding knife after a heated argument at the high school event in Frisco in April 2025.
The case shocked America, and the discussion surrounding it quickly became racially fraught.
During closing arguments, prosecutors eviscerated Anthony's self-defense claim and encouraged jurors to find him guilty of murder.
'What is important is not motive. It's mindset. Mindset. He took a knife to a track meet,' Collin County First Assistant District Attorney Bill Wirskye said.
'[Anthony] of course, felt empowered that he was going to come out on top of any encounter. You don't get to meet a shove with a stab, especially if you provoke the shove.'
Wirskye added, 'Why didn't he just walk away. He could have left the tent at any time. He didn't. He didn't abandon the encounter.'

The kid will have to settle for Rev. Al as his spiritual advisor now that Jesse Jackson croaked. He can always join a muzzie group for protection in whatever prison he ends up in, or some other black gang behind bars. The Nation of Islam is active in prisons. While they may protect him, they will extract what they want from him in return. May he be continually extorted by the convicts taking care of him, of packages sent from home, and money his family sends the facility for his commissary purchases. I'd love to listen into his phone calls home to mommy once he's settled in prison.
Karmelo Anthony’s lawyer blames Austin Metcalf for his own death in shocking courtroom argument
Hate-filled protests erupt outside courthouse after Karmelo Anthony found guilty of murder
If you don't want to be raped, assaulted or murdered behind bars, don't commit a crime to put yourself in that position. He's not the victim here. He's a cold-blooded murderer. He deserves no sympathy. The sympathy belongs to the Metcalf family who lost a twin son because a "goon" who was asked to walk away, didn't, and decided on his own to stab that white boy in the chest.
Because they always feel like “Dey being DISSresPekted, yo!”
Agreed. I favor the death penalty. I do not favor torture or rape.
I think it was their strategy to use an incompetent public defender. Now they can appeal citing ineffectual counsel and fund raise off the back of that telling the folks we needs to afford someone like Ben “the crumb” Crump for poor ole Anthony to gets justice.
Screw that whole putrid family.
Defense had to question and approve the jurors too. They did bring up a Batson challenge objection, which would have required a racially diverse panel, but Judge Roach ruled against it. I bet the defense will appeal based on the make-up of the jury.
The defense attorney was not a public defender, but a highly regarded private attorney. He took on an impossible case to defend.
The real justice will only be done when he faces his Maker.
He's got the cred...but he lost the street.
“...Gross - there should be no rape in prison. Why are these goons being given someone to abuse?...”
It’s a whole different world and culture on the inside, and it ain’t pretty and sociable like on the outside. It’s more like survivial of the fittest...and tough as nails.
Make-beleive tough guy, Karmelo, is gonna have to become a real-life thug or submit to wearing pink lace panties with lipstick and flowers in his hair. Big Bubba might be the best thing he’ll have going for him as Big Bubba will protect his own...welcome to prison life.
Why they need to bring back “Scared Straight.”
If he had just not taken the knife to the track meet. If he had not entered the tent when he shouldn’t have been there. If he had only walked out when told to. I wonder if he thinks of those things. Was it worth being the bad-ass tough guy? Was being “disrespected” so offensive that he threw his life away?
He's still crying because he got caught. If he wanted to be a punk and murder someone, he shouldn't have done it in front of multiple witnesses, both black and white. He's not a very bright kid.
The definition of manslaughter is the unlawful killing of a human being without express or implied malice. He'd never had been able to prove that Karmelo Anthony didn't have malice in mind when he deliberately drew a knife and stuck it in Sean Metcalf's heart, for simply being asked to leave the tent.
The problem isn't then knife, ladies and gentlemen. The problem is the knife carrier.
Knives don't cause people to become violent, any more than guns, or bows, or swords, or spears, or slings do.
Good people carry weapons for defense of self and others.
Bad people carry weapons to intimidate or kill the innocent.
Banning weapons only disarms the good people; bad people don't care about the law.
Karmello Anthony is a bad person. He went to the opposing team's tent with malice aforethought, intending to cause trouble. He got plenty of trouble. Now he's a convicted murderer. He threw his life away long before he pulled the knife ... threw it away even before he left home for the track meet.
The problem wasn't in Karmello Anthony's backpack. The problem was between Karmello Anthony's ears.
RIP Austin Metcalf; his is the name we should remember ... along with Iryna Zarutska and everyone else who has died because feral punks like karme ... no. I won't type his name again. May he rot in prison, forgotten, until he croaks.
Any kid that had previously been suspended for carrying a knife, and was intent on still carrying a knife, knowing that his parent would be checking his backpack before he left the house, would have hid it somewhere outside the home, or handed it over to one of their friends to hold, until he could retrieve it again, then hide it once more before going home. That's how convicts do it in the prison. The last thing they want to do is be caught carrying a weapon, so they usually stash them in a spot inside the prison, where they know they are going to be spending most of their time, then stash it again before heading back to the cell block or building at the end of the day.
