Quentin Tarantino is not a fan of the majority of movies coming out of Hollywood these days. Writing for Sight & Sound magazine, the Oscar winner revealed that “it’s almost impossible” for him these days to watch a new movie and not pick it “to death.”
“Flaws, implausibilities, audience pandering, miscast performers or just plain stupid shit usually torpedoes every new movie coming out of the flavorless sausage factory that used to call itself Hollywood,” the director explained. “These days, the entire concept of what is a movie is more inclined to inspire contempt in me than generosity. Which is fair enough, because by comparison the movies of the last six years make the 80s seem like the 30s.”
“I’ve seen movies I liked since then – ‘West Side Story’ (2021); ‘Horizon: An American Saga’ Chapter 1 and 2 (both 2024), a few others, but nothing that really held me in its grip and swept me away to the magical land of enjoyment that I use to visit regularly and was the reason I loved movies above all other artforms. These days I’d rather read a book,” Tarantino added.

A director who makes movies with the heart and soul of a porn and violence infatuated 13 year old, has no moral standing to judge anyone else in Hollywood.
He may be right in some ways but the message is greatly depreciated by who is carrying it.
Whether you like him and/or his products or not, he makes a sound point. And that should be the focus of the discussion.
Trying to change the conversation to disparaging the speaker is petty.
It's how I spend many happy hours each afternoon, and before bed, reading from various hardback, paperback, and Kindle books. I don't do audio books.
That may be the only one of his movies that I ever watched.
I never watched the movie, but watched the 3 season TV series on Hulu of the same name, which told the story of 4 Native-American teenagers in Oklahoma.
Last movie I saw at the theater was Deadpool & Wolverine with my youngest son. That was in 2024. My youngest son is 55, and has always been a Marvel fan...and Marvel comic book collector.
I agree! And I hope I didn’t come across as disparaging him. I actually agree with him. I consider him cancel-proof, so he can come out and tell the truth.
In all fairness, Tarantino watched hundreds of “Z-rated” movies, and cherry picked them to find scenes and snippets of brilliance, which he duplicated and put in his own movies. Often to good effect.
For him, the purpose of film making is entertainment, made increasingly important in our age of “Save the Cat!: The Last Book on Screenwriting You’ll Ever Need”, and the even more insidious “AI Slop”, with P.C. casting by such vermin as woke Kathleen Kennedy.
Tarantino needs to launch a film making school, to slowly extricate Hollywood from its corporate folly.
