Quentin Tarantino is not a fan of the majority of movies coming out of Hollywood these days. Writing for Sight & Sound magazine, the Oscar winner revealed that “it’s almost impossible” for him these days to watch a new movie and not pick it “to death.”
“Flaws, implausibilities, audience pandering, miscast performers or just plain stupid shit usually torpedoes every new movie coming out of the flavorless sausage factory that used to call itself Hollywood,” the director explained. “These days, the entire concept of what is a movie is more inclined to inspire contempt in me than generosity. Which is fair enough, because by comparison the movies of the last six years make the 80s seem like the 30s.”
“I’ve seen movies I liked since then – ‘West Side Story’ (2021); ‘Horizon: An American Saga’ Chapter 1 and 2 (both 2024), a few others, but nothing that really held me in its grip and swept me away to the magical land of enjoyment that I use to visit regularly and was the reason I loved movies above all other artforms. These days I’d rather read a book,” Tarantino added.

Reservoir Dogs is also a great movie.
He just wants to see more feet.
“Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is one of Quentin’s movies that is on my list.”
Unfortunately The Hateful Eight and Django Unchained cancel thst one out.
He's not wrong.
We haven't been in a movie theater since 2019 - ironically the last movie we saw in a theater was "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood."
so many movies today are about magic and people with magical abilities
they call them superheroes and have created entire universes around them
Never seen them. So....no chance of them getting on the list. I am also very-very selective of movies I watch so every year the Missus and I go and seen may two movies a year because that is how may are even worthy of leaving the house for popcorn...
It’s a way to transfer wealth to washed-up liberal has-beens. See “Doctor Jill Biden”.
Wait till The Odyssey bombs. Will send a real message. The MCU crap, Star Wars, basically anything Disney, you kind of expect DEI oafel. A director like Nolan crapping the bed will send shockwaves...already happening. Hollywood is not in the business of losing billions. Disney can take the hit, their parks are carrying everything like College football carries all other college athletics. But the other studios cannot not.
There's a risk to that strategy. Gen Z is coming of age. And they didn't really grew up on Disney. So what we'll see in time that theme park attendance will decline naturally.
All of a sudden, Disney will lose billions and they can no longer subsidize Woke propaganda.
“”””Nothing says “ignore” quite like a multi-part essay series on how much you don’t like the movie.””””
It is pretty hard to make a life as a writer if you don’t write.
“Never seen them”
Don’t, from what little I watched, both are vile and disgusting.
[[What’s a book?]]
I believe it is a slimy pile of goo that smells to high heaven and wiggles whenever it feels threatened- but what do i know? (Checks my tablet and AI for definition of book quickly, so’s as not to look foolish... Nope,. i was wrong)
I tried to find a movie to watch on Prime video last night. I finally went back to reading a book. Most of the new movies are unwatchable.
Very true, and my daughter has a Disney memorabilia business. She does it into 6 figures with it and visits the parks regularly, Orlando, Cali, and Paris. Her last trip in April... she said there was a noticeable lack of crowds. I mean you could chalk it up to costs for families, but it’s been outrageously expensive the last 10 years. Something else is happening.
its on your nook
Hey QT stop complaining and make some more films.
The average American IQ has dropped significantly. The people who make these movies know their market. When the “elites” try to make a movie, its even more hopeless for a variety of reasons.
Hollywood never recovered from the 2007 writers strike.
they know how to make great movies still, they simply choose not to and instead choose indoctrination trash.
The last one I saw in the theater was Avatar (2009). When they couldn’t resist putting a political message in Tron: Legacy, that was the final straw. I haven’t seen anything created since.
