Question on tomatoes. Is there any advantage to clipping or topping tomatoes over so high? My plants are strong and thick (not thin spindly) but they are getting quite tall. I have normal amount of blooms and tomatoes. I hate to fix so things if it’s not broke. Your thoughts?

I have a piece of cattle panel as a back fence to clip tomato plants to. I use the spooled green long twistie tie. I also use the long green coated metal stakes.

I’ve never ‘topped’ tomato plants as I have a shorter growing season than some, anyway. (Zone 5) I DO make sure they are fertilized on time, and I pinch out any suckers, for sure!

BUT - if you’re gonna do it, here is a guide on what to do and when and why:

Great question and good Food For Thought! :)
