I think the seeds of doubt were sowed, when very early, we were told that the virus did not spread human to human. Then we were told that it did. We were also told that we were xenophobic cause we wanted to stop immigration from the initial area of large numbers of infected patients. That was enough to completely discredit the “experts”...bunch of pompous jerks. After that, any official pronouncement was met with skepticism.
