Hitting 120 used to be a thing for teen males, I doubt that many today ever try it, or if their cars will even do it.
I hit 150 in a 5.0 mustang on a long straightaway of I-94. My dad had won the use of it for a month in a golf tournament. Scared the crap out of me.

Fastest I’ve ever driven was 115 mph on the autobahn in Germany. My knuckles were white. The best cruising speed in my Volvo 242 GT was 90 mph, I loved that car.

Don’t kid yourself. We’re living in a golden age for HP. Our basic, plan-Jane CX-3 has a top speed of 123mph with a 2.0L4 unturned charged engine. Four dour Dodge Chargers with a 5.7 V8 will easily run 140 mph.
This not the era of 1990s under powered slugs
I’m not going to say I never hit 120 mph on I10 at night in between Lake City and Orange Park heading home for Christmas but the road was deserted, no kid in the back and I was sober as a judge. When you just bought a 5 spd Mercedes that little gremlins on your shoulder says “top it out. Just for a minute”. 😉
most all cars will hit 120 today, offhand I cannot think of any that will not.
I was driving somewhere in “fly over” country last year and averaged 136 over a 6 hour stretch

Usually speed limited based on the OEM tires.
Many of my older cars speedometers went to 160mph... What the hell was that for?
