If that’s the case, the time between the races should be extended for every horse every year.

Well, Golden Tempo won’t be the first Triple Crown winner trained by a woman.

From the article: “None of the 18 who ran this year at Churchill Downs are heading to the Preakness, with Golden Tempo the only one considered.”

How is something that happens in 3 of the last 5 years evidence of “Major Disarray?”

” Thrown into disarray.” What a line. It’s happened before. It’s disappointing. We’ll get over it.

Oh well. Elsewhere others are whining that the race is being run in Laurel, MD, due to renovations that started in 2024. Pimlico is expected to be ready for next year’s race. Meanwhile, Belmont is being run in Saratoga Springs because of renovation work at Belmont. To me, as long as the distance is correct, if the original venue is under work, do it at another site. I know I got off topic! Anyway, the purists can look forward to next year when the races will all be run at the original sites.

“Triple Crown” thrown in disarray? Does TC own the horse, or have bills to pay?
A horse needs to be in top condition for a race, and thoroughbred racehorses are always just one hangnail away from losing their entire short stellar career, never mind one race. They’re really delicate creatures, far more vulnerable than human Olympians.
If Golden’s owners think he’s not ready, count on it, he’s not ready. They can either give him time to rest up, or they can take the insane risk to run him and have to put him down because he had some mishap. And on the track, “some mishap” can take out other horses and their riders too.
No horse can tell you, “I’ve got a shooting pain up to here every couple of minutes. Let’s not run this hoof, ok?” No brilliant humans tenderly managing every square inch of him can be sure a simple infection won’t get someone killed next week.
There’s more at stake than Triple Crown glory.

I don’t follow horse racing. Just noting that the Kentucky Derby , and a horse trying for the triple crown, is a major topic thst comes up.

So a lot of more casual racing fans, who watch the Kentucky Derby, and will watch the Preakness and Belmont, to see if someone can win the Triple Crown, will tune out the next two races.

Among other things, it hurts the TV ratings for these next two races.

Smart. Let him rest up. Isn’t the Belmont the longest distance?

This has happened before where the Derby winner skipped the Preakness and went straight to Belmont.

Probably wouldn’t have been a Triple Crown winner anyway.

yes. if the horse needs more time maybe other horses could use more time, too

maybe they could spread the race dates out a bit?

Good for her. She’s looking out for the health and welfare of her horse, rather than cater to the MSM whose only desire is to profit from writing headline stories about the triple crown hopeful.

It should be a contractual requirement that the Kentucky Derby winner will participate in the Preakness. If the horse wins the Preakness, then it must participate in the Belmont.
