WASHINGTON — Tax cuts are becoming the hottest new idea in Democratic politics from coast to coast, as candidates across the party spectrum seek to capitalize on cost-of-living struggles and win back working-class voters.
Sens. Cory Booker, D-N.J., and Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., recently rolled out sweeping tax cut plans. Booker seeks to create a federal tax exemption for up to $75,000 in income for married couples. Van Hollen wants to set that figure at $92,000. Both have been floated as potential 2028 presidential candidates.
In California, progressive candidate for governor Katie Porter, a former Democratic congresswoman, is proposing to wipe out state income taxes for California families making up to $100,000 per year.
In Georgia, gubernatorial candidate Keisha Lance Bottoms, a former mayor of Atlanta and Biden administration official, is campaigning on “eliminating state income taxes for teachers.”
The trend has sparked a “wonk revolt” uniting policy experts from the center to the left against the new trend, said Zach Moller, senior director of economic policy at the moderate Democratic group Third Way.
He said the divide is part of a “Democratic Cold War” between those who want to give tax breaks to certain groups and policy-minded figures who favor a broad revenue base.
The critics warn that Democrats cannot plausibly fund a European-style safety net if they continue to push for slashing revenues or shrinking the tax base.

Can you say "bait and switch"?
They are using the word “tax cuts”
That is not what I am seeing. These are schemes of wealth redistribution and social engineering.
Ait and switch. I can say it, I even know what it means. And the Demon-rats are very, very good at it.
Well, yes, tax cuts for mega corporations by rallying for them to get billions in refunds from the government tariffs.
Its not a new idea for democrats. Its an old, often used broken promise.
Commies want tax cuts AND affordability? They got nuthin’.
Riiiiiight. Free beer tomorrow!
Yeah they’ll deliver them after the Midterm. Ha! Ha! I think Gov. Nescum wants to give California citizens a Tax rebate too! He says he has found $81 million somewhere they had misplaced it,

My SS is still being 85% taxed....
It’s somewhat surprising that I remain fairly pissed, but driven by the WhiteHUT claims of “no tax on SS”.
They need to Stop It.
Plus Trump has always been a Big [YUGE] Spender.
Reading between the lines they know NOTHING they are throwing at Trump and thenGOP is sticking. So now they will run on non existent tax cuts with the usual refrain “Donald Trump and the extreme MAGA republicans are refusing to cut taxes on working people to pay for tax cuts to his billionaire buddies.”
(Typed in my best Hakeem Jeffries voice.)
I also do not understand why Trump continues to say no tax on…..
All three of his tax cuts have some restrictions. For overtime and Tips there is a limit on how much can be untaxed. I agree with this because it would be abused otherwise.
Social Security is another story. It gets phased out at a certain income level. Trump should have found a better way to state it. I hope not too many people are so angry after they did their taxes and found out that they were still paying taxes on Social Security payments that they will not vote Republican in the midterms
Democrat taqiyya e.g. lying in furtherance of their nefarious ends.
“I hope not too many people are so angry after they did their taxes and found out that they were still paying taxes on Social Security payments that they will not vote Republican in the midterms”
I have other reasons to not vote FOR my house ‘critter nor for the “Senator” up for re-election.
They will win election, but not with my support.
YMMV
Election Season. Promise the moon, then deliver nothing/backtrack when you get elected. Unfortunately, Republicans are only slightly less bad.

And raise it for everybody else.
I seem to recall that when Republicans call for tax cuts the Democrats respond with something like “how will we pay for it?”
More like ‘Hot New Lie’. The party of slavery is not about to give its free roaming slaves a break. Power is the only thing RATs crave.
I would say that is pandering. The current tax bracket for a married couple with $100K income is 6%.
