Not just drugs, but psychological torture that wouldn't be out of place in A Clockwork Orange. Ultimately the blood of the unabomber's victims is on their hands. If the spooks hadn't scrambled his brain, Kaczinsky would probably have been a productive researcher in mathematics for the rest of his life.
It's not even altruism per se, it's the absurd belief that equality (or the new buzzword, "equity") should be the ultimate goal of society. The goal isn't usually achieved by altruism, but simply by creating a social and economic system which disincentivizes achievement.
A high IQ does not preclude neurosis, sociopathy, nor psychopathy.
