I heard one woman say she loved her husband but divorced him because he no longer met her needs. Helloooooo! People you love, you work with even if it means tough love. If someone is guilty of substance abuse, you shouldn't enable them. If they are guilty of infidelity and have no intention of changing their ways, you don't keep them. If they have developed an extreme entitlement mentality like so many of the far left, you need to cut ties before they drag you to financial ruin.
Other than these three exceptions, if you love them, you will stand by them.

Because of my parents’ truly ugly divorce and my father’s early death, there was a great deal of blaming and truly ugly statements from both sides of the family.
The things that were said were truly toxic, deeply hurtful to us children.
And yet in retrospect, I am glad to have known those people and that I never cut them off when I was grown. I wish they had been more judicious, more forgiving, less hurtful...but they were my family.
Now I am cut off by a child for not cutting off someone for not cutting off someone else - and my brothers may never speak again to each other. And yes the offenses were real and serious and lasting, I don’t minimize them.
