You know who doesn’t steal copper wire from street light circuits? The deceased, that’s who. Just sayin’.

City officials say the current system generates roughly $45 million and has not been significantly updated since the 1990s, when Proposition 218 was adopted by California voters to require property-owner approval for new or increased local assessments.”

The thing to watch is not that the governments of California propose this as a ballot issue but whether the voters approve it. If they do, the insane reveal themselves. Maybe the politicians know their constituents too well.

Only a matter of a short time before these people start attacking home owners in mass and police will not respond. It is coming folks...

Perhaps LA should institute a copper “buyback” program, where the thieves could simply take their copper into the local police station. They could offer above-market rates for it and then recycle the wire back into the lights.

“The city wants to punish the people who didn’t ruin the street lights and make them pay to fix it. Unreal.”

Punish? Is it punishment when I have to replace/repair loss/damage done to me during theft/vandalism of my house or other property? Is that unreal or the way it is.

But:

“Wouldn’t it make more sense to enforce the law and punish people for stealing the copper wire? Isn’t that the logical fix for this problem?”

Yes and yes if you can catch them.

Anybody got an alternative proposal?

need money to fix the street lights?

take it from police salaries.

if they can’t catch a guy dragging gobs of copper wiring, they don’t deserve to be a cop.

if they want to protect their salary... then protect the citizens assets

There is such a thing as solar powered street lights. They could tax the crap out of the few remaining working Angelenos and save the planet.

Democrats are stupid enough. But they go to great lengths to find black democrats who lower the bar even more. Hence, Bass.

Why don't they elect a Thomas Sowell or a Ben Carson? Oh, yeah. Cause anybody with more than 2 or 3 IQ points will have sense enough to vote Republican.

Never mind.

The definition of insanity is in full play here.

Is it? Or maybe they are lying about what they are trying to accomplish?

Or is that also insanity, but in a different way?

How about arresting the thieves and then harvest all of their organs while they are still alive and sell them on the black market to pay for the fix
