Indiana Fever Struggle To Sell Out Season Opener By Charging Outrageous Prices For WNBA Tickets

The 2026 season-opener between the Indiana Fever and Dallas Wings will be one of the most highly anticipated games in WNBA history. However, it is nowhere near a sellout as of this writing due to outrageous ticket prices.

This is the first time ever that the Indianapolis-based organization is struggling to sell seats.

Cost is the primary factor in the stark decline of sales for the Fever home-opener, which reflects a larger concern for the WNBA. Someone has to pay for the increased player salaries but the demand may not match the financial expenditure.

The 2026 WNBA season will get underway on Friday, May 8. The Fever begins its campaign on May 9 against the Wings.

Dallas is led by Paige Bueckers, the No. 1 overall pick 2025 and reigning Rookie of the Year, and her girlfriend and former teammate Azzi Fudd, who was drafted No. 1 overall in 2026. Indiana is led by the biggest star in the league, 2024 No. 1 overall pick Caitlin Clark.

“Paige Bueckers, the No. 1 overall pick 2025 and reigning Rookie of the Year, and her girlfriend and former teammate Azzi Fudd ...”

Wow, sign me up for Paige and Elmer Fudd.

Just bring your phone or tablet and amuse yourself with that. It’s not like you have to watch what’s happening on the court. $250 an hour ain’t bad wages. :)

I didn't say they'd look sexy, I said they'd sell more tickets. 🤣🤣

Play in lingerie? Have you never seen a WNBA game? They should wear more clothes not less. :-)

Are you telling me that they charge to get into a goofy WNBA game? You’ve got to be kidding me.

Talk of Clark “load managing” this year hasn’t helped.

Dozens expected to attend.

I watch movies on a free streaming service and they are non stop advertising for the wnba. No matter how hard they try to make it look exciting the seats are always empty in the back ground.

You missed the best part about Paige Bueckers being the #1 overall draft pick in 2025, the article mentioned Buecker’s girlfriend was the #1 overall pick in the most recent draft and the two are now teammates.

Two teammates are in a romantic relationship, and they are charging NBA level prices for the WNBA, what could possibly go wrong.

Not to mention on other WNBA teams, they have situations that arise where two women are in a romantic relationship that are playing against each other, which always makes for compelling competition.

You don't want to see those uglies play in lingerie, period! In fact I'm grossed out just thinking about it.

Yet ESPN is not covering the story.

I dunno, that one girl that plays ‘enforcer’ for the Fever would be worth a look.

Sophie Cunningham is the only WNBA player that people would want to see in lingerie

They’re probably going for the “sell tickets at a high price to drive the perception of ‘desired exclusivity’”.

It might work to a degree, to begin with, then people will go back to realizing they’re rather watch men.

I saw a funny video on X where women were asked if the WNBA should make as much money as the NBA. Of course they all said yes. Then they were asked what their favorite WNBA team was and they couldn’t even name one.

Too expensive and attendance drops. We see this with the move to iPPV for games.
