A lot of idiots like big refunds.
Their lame excuses are “we use it for vacations”. Get a savings account moron.
Others are SO stupid they believe the aren’t paying taxes if you get a refund.
Can’t fix stupid.
Not if you do simple math. Then add a $10 withholding per check.
Not hard to match your tax liability with withholding.
Thank you. Those spreadsheets look good.
My problem is coordinating the withholding.
I know exactly how much I need to withhold total.
The problem is, the IRS insists I use that stupid W4 which does not allow one to just say ‘withhold this amount’.
Instead, I have to do multiple iterations specifying different deductions until I get the numbers I want.
The W4 is useless these days.
Also, I like to pay a few hundred.
Idiots.
Sometimes I calculated how far I could go in the year without having federal income tax taken out of my paycheck and then restarted it so I wouldn’t owe anything. I would receive a couple of hundred dollars back in a refund.
He wants the middle class to feel the effect of the tax changes now, not next April 15.

That’s how I met my wife 26 years ago.
She was an accountant where I worked.
I was a contract employee with a few brief periods of no work.
She came storming up to my desk and told me I couldn’t
claim 13 dependents.
I laughed and told her I’d been doing it for years.
By the time the IRS notifies me, I’ll be on my next job.
I still always got a refund.
I have found that the rate of penalty for non-payment is lower than my long run stock returns, so I always short pay my taxes as long as I can, and pay their interest and penalties. I make more keeping that cash in the market over long periods of time.
Exactly. I got a big refund this year and adjusted my withholding so that i won’t get any refund next year. I want the money now not 2027.
The tax reductions in Trump 1.0 included changing withholding . Many people got larger paychecks, but they lived paycheck to paycheck, and never noticed what was automatically deposited. When they had a smaller or no tax refund at the end of the year, they hated it and thought they paid more in taxes. Eileen Trump.
Well duh?
absolutely
The whole thing is a trap.
Haven’t paid taxes since 97. Things are doing ok.
No w2, not ever. That’s you volunteering to pay your taxes.
That’s why YOU have to do them. The government can’t. It’s voluntary and when you file them you are volunteering to pay them.
W2 is where your employer becomes a little bitch snitch and tell them what to expect when you do volunteer it.
1099 all the way.
Can we just make him Treasury Secretary for life?
“Do your own withholding. You should be the one earning your own interest from your own income in a savings account.”
I might buy that had I received a refund this year, but I did not. Not only do both my wife and I claim 0 on our W4, we actually have additional federal taxes withheld.
To be fair, we usually owe the IRS $3-$5K each tax year, and this year we only owed $460.00.
I’ll take it.
“It will create a crisis for them.”
Not in every case. My son claims 0 dependents and received a $3K refund. He could likely claim 1 on his W4 and be just fine.
Look at 2026 W4 - there is a check box at the bottom. This relates to tax exempt status.
Once you file 1040, you must report income. You can claim lawful money thru a process that is buried in the IRS code. This code makes you tax exempt.
At a minimum, increase the amount of itemized deductions! Don’t check the box til you go thru the process.
