Gustave Dore created 10,000 highly detailed wood engravings and his Crusade pieces are extraordinary. I'm also a fan of his Rime of the Ancient Mariner series.
I must admit: in many cases, the impact of these "old technology" artworks are often more compellingly than works from our digital age. Though image libraries such as Google Images have made "ancient" art far more accessible -- and kept art history alive.
