A brave 89-year-old grandmother climbed from the 27th to the 21st floor on her building’s outer wall after accidentally locking herself in, shocking many people online.
The woman in Beijing was spotted stuck outside a residential building’s 26th floor on an afternoon on April 1.
A cleaner and a security guard heard her faint sounds from downstairs, looked up and saw her grabbing tightly to the rails that protect air conditioners on the outer wall.

They immediately called the police and shouted to her to stay put and wait to be rescued.
She continued climbing down when the firefighters were on their way.
The exhausted woman eventually stopped at 21st floor, which was about 50 metres above the ground.
The firefighters had to rescue her from inside the building as it was not safe for them to also get onto the rails.
They discovered that the 89-year-old lives alone on the 27th floor. She accidentally locked herself in the bedroom and left her mobile phone in the living room.
The anxious woman then made the extremely dangerous decision to climb down along the air conditioner units’ rails.
She said she had planned to climb all the way down to the first floor.

I thought typically you could only lock a bedroom door from the inside. At least that is what I believe is code here in the USA.
I’d say the lock was facing the wrong way!
Maybe wave a sheet out the window and drop a note?
“Is anyone else irritated they used the word ‘climbed’ to describe a descent?”
No. If that irritates you, I suggest you stay off the internet.
“That alone will make me block the news source.”
It is from China.
“Is this an old folks home ?”
We had locks on our bedroom door when the kids were still living in the house for obvious reasons as I’m sure many will attest. And if anyone mentions she’s 89 years old...good for her.
Besides, locks break sometimes and except for pounding on the walls, she was trapped.

The ability to lock yourself into an interior living space - commercial or residential - is contrary to just about every known building code in the civilized world, but yeah, China.
Hinges are on the inside.
Just sayin’.
Locked INSIDE the bedroom.
It is China. It’s probably required to have apartments and rooms that lock from the outside.
Do I have to explain EVERYTHING?

Always keep a butter knife handy
Does she have a long history of climbing to great heights?
Is it not possible that this woman’s response to being locked in her bathroom was made easier, due to the effects of Alzheimers or Dementia?
She may not have been in what most people call ‘her right mind’ when she did this.
Just the idea of doing that is breathtaking.
“Don’t look behind you. Just don’t!!”
Cooler than bungee jumping! Spidergranny did it without a net or a rope!
verb phrase
climb down
to descend, especially by using both hands and feet.
She climbed down from the treehouse and went to wash up for supper.
Love it!
