Nancy Guthrie’s kidnappers likely didn’t know she was so fragile — and dumped her body because she was ‘no longer of value,’ expert says

Savannah Guthrie’s ailing 84-year-old mom likely suffered a fatal medical episode during her kidnapping — and her greedy captors were forced to dump her body because she was no longer “of value” to them once dead, according to a cold-case expert.

The kidnappers likely “underestimated” how fragile Nancy Guthrie’s health was when they carried out their sickening money grab, Brian Martin, an Indiana detective who specializes in cold cases, told NewsNation’s Brian Entin.

That left them forced to scrap their ransom plan and get rid of her body when things went “sideways” with the “Today” show host’s mom, who had a slew of major health issues, the detective suggested.

“What really bothers me is if they underestimated Miss Guthrie’s health and thought, ‘Well, we’ll take her, this will be easy. We’ll hold on to her at an unknown location for a day or two. We’ll get some money out of this and we’ll leave her in a Walmart parking lot,’” Martin said.

“And what they had to do is … it sounds horrible…. They had to dispose of Miss Guthrie because she was no longer of value to them in that monetary gain that they’re hoping to get,” Martin said.

Guthrie vanished from her home in Tucson, Arizona, 67 days ago and has not been seen or heard from since.

I got what you meant.

When that idiot sheriff bypassed the FBI and sent DNA evidence to a private company I started wondering if he was actually in on it......I mean who would do such a thing?

Yes.

And I believe she died very quickly after she was abducted.

Very sad and I hope the bastard(s) who did this are caught.

It’s possible that the totally useless sheriff and the cartels were working together. They weren’t aware of her health issues so when she hadn’t had her necessary meds after 24 hours they just whacked her — or she died naturally.

Kidnap for ransom is pretty common in Mexico. The brother of my coworker was grabbed in Guadalajara where he is a doctor. This was maybe 20 years ago.

The women who are speaking out and threatening Eric Stalwell are receiving glossy pictures of Nancy Guhrie in unmarked envelopes.

If she was already dead, the competence of the Sheriff’s office doesn’t change anything about the ultimate outcome

That possible scenario was floated around by everybody from about day three.

I don’t understand the hostility toward the Sheriff’s Dept. The perps didn’t leave any clues. One can’t make something out of nothing. Cases like this always rely on tips.

You and me must be experts too, since that’s been my theory from the start as well.

Nancy Guthrie will now join the club of missing persons like Amelia Earhart and Jimmy Hoffa and Madeleine McCann.

“I don’t understand the hostility toward the Sheriff’s Dept.”

I think the hostility was not toward the department, but was toward the sheriff himself. There was something “off” about him — beyond being a retard. He slow-rolled action, gave reports that contained no info, and did other odd things. Almost like he was in in it (IMO).

You obviously didn’t follow the case at all then.

The missteps and questionable decisions by the sheriff were well documented....including the mishandling of DNA evidence.

That door cam video really highlighted how competent the “kidnappers” were. First, the backpack seem full. If one is doing this for money, it would make sense to either not have a full backpack or at the very least bring an extra bag to carry valuable items. If the backpack is full, there should be something in the backpack to deal with the door camera but the “kidnapper” just looked for part of a tree to try to cover the camera.
I agree with the theory that Nancy Guthrie likely died shortly after the kidnapping because the kidnapper likely just gave up trying to collect millions of dollars in bitcoin. If one has already setup an online address to collect bitcoin, the kidnapper should have given Savannah extra chances to send the money or anonymously drop videos at local television stations showing Nancy still alive. I wonder if this was the police of FBI’s theory early on and maybe that is why the FBI told Savannah to not pay the ransom but the FBI didn’t want to tell Savannah their belief that Nancy already died.

I was all over it like ugly on an ape. His work was second-guessed ad nauseam, but that is easy. The DNA evidence eventually made its way to the Fed lab, with no different results. Most of the criticism was just petty.
