FBI Director Kash Patel was most aggrieved wrt the ADL being allowed to conduct “disgraceful ops spying on Americans” without Americans’ knowledge or consent.
Historically, the 80 year connection involved the following:

Reason for the Recent ADL OUSTER:
FBI Director Kash Patel accusing the ADL of being a “political front masquerading as a watchdog”.
The move followed significant concern and backlash after the ADL included “Turning Point USA” and its late founder, the murdered Charlie Kirk, in ADL’s “Glossary of Extremism and Hate”.
Patel found FBI agents were improperly “embedded” with the ADL and conducted “outrageous ops spying on Americans” without Americans’ knowledge or consent.
