Some people just can’t get along with others. I’ve been here 28 years and have never been warned, suspended, changed my screen name, or submitted an opus. I’ve had run-ins with people over the years, but I haven’t been intimidated enough to throw in the towel. People like Openyourmind can’t take the heat, so they run to whatever site other malcontents flock to. Some of them, as they go, want to look like a victim, and blame others for their leaving. Thus the opus.

Usually someone who had ongoing personal communication with the Freeper that's passed, posts it in the forum. That is, if someone from the family lets them know of the passing. I was communicating with a long-time Freeper up until last fall. Last communication I had from her, she was in the hospital, then nothing. I wrote her via FR several times but got no replies from her or a family member, and I had no personal information to check on her. It was another Freeper who posted her death on the site.

Thanks for pointing that out. Those of us who are against wasting our tax payer dollars on proxy wars have been regularly wrongly labeled by other Freepers. We fought two costly proxy wars with Russia and China in Korea and Vietnam, and are against sending our money and weapons to yet another one in Ukraine, especially when none of the money or weapons have been accounted-for on the other end. For some reason, some people here don't want to accept that viewpoint, and we're falsely labeled Putin cheerleaders, etc., because we feel that way.

Only 20 years for me, but likewise, I've pretty much followed the rules and kept my nose relatively clean. No trouble. I'm 74, getting into trouble is too much work, LOL.

One FReeper I worry about is Swordmaker. He ran the Apple/Mac Ping List and with ShadowAce inspired me to start the Windows Ping List many years ago. But the personal abuse he took on account of Apple was brutal and unrelenting, and I know it took a toll on his happiness in doing the ping list; ultimately the pings faded away and no one has picked up the list since.

He also ran the Shroud of Turin ping list although his last post on that topic was two years ago. The last comment of any kind I see from him was last October, for Halloween. He's a good man, and losing his beloved lady some years ago took a toll on him as well. I hope he's okay.

FreeRepublic should be able to survive the loss of JimRob, but it's rough going. This last FReepathon was really worrisome; I didn't think we'd make it, although we did, barely.

I've looked at a few other "conservative" sites but I like to read, not be bombarded by videos and ads. Nothing compares to FR for quiet simplicity. So if FR fades out, I'm SOL too. But maybe it won't matter; nothing on the internet will be believable anyway in another year or two, it'll all be AI and trolls and spam and malware. Sic Transit.

On the bright side, every day that I wake up and can thank Almighty God for another day, is a good one. :-)

I used to look forward to his threads because I use Apple computers, and it was inevitable that a-holes would show up denigrating Apple products and the people who use them. I can understand why he stopped posting here.It was disgusting. I just hope he's okay. He also used to post a true ghost story "The Landlady's Tale" every Halloween. Last time he posted that was Halloween 2025.
