BREAKING: Local School Implements Mandatory Nap Time, Sparks Citywide Bedlam
Missouri City Kansas Times ^ | April 1st | Jane Doe, Staff Writer

In an unprecedented move that has left parents and students scratching their heads, Maplewood Elementary School announced yesterday that starting next week, all students will be required to take a mandatory two-hour nap during school hours.

The new policy, dubbed "Dream Time," aims to improve focus and overall student well-being.

Principal Susan Bright explained, "After extensive research, we found that a short nap can boost creativity, memory, and happiness. Plus, who doesn’t love a good snooze?" The school is installing custom sleep pods in every classroom, complete with lavender scent diffusers and plush pillows.

Parents initially reacted with surprise and a little confusion. Mark Thompson, father of third-grader Lily, said, "I thought it was a joke at first. My daughter already struggles to wake up early; now she has to nap in the middle of the day?" Others expressed concern about productivity and the potential for classroom chaos. Students, however, are thrilled. Eleven-year-old Max Ramirez said, "Best day ever! I’ve been dreaming about this for years." Teachers are equally optimistic, with some joking that they might join in for a quick rest themselves.

City officials are watching closely. Mayor Linda Carter announced plans to implement "Dream Time" in all city schools if the pilot program proves successful. "It's a bold step towards revolutionizing education," she stated, “and if it helps students, why not?”

As April Fool's Day approaches, many are wondering whether the "Dream Time" initiative is real or just an elaborate prank. But given the school’s quirky reputation, it’s safe to say that for now, students can look forward to catching some Z’s—at least for today.

We brought a small rug from home, put it on the floor of the classroom and took 20-minute naps. It doubled as bathroom time. I remember needing to go to the bathroom real bad and when I held up my 2-fingered signal to the teacher, she said to go ahead but don’t forget to close the door because the other kids were trying to sleep!

At the school on the rough part of Tacoma where my wife teaches, many / most kids show up having played video games until well after midnight.

Just sayin’...

I liked better then. The 2000’s are terrible compared to those innocent times.

I don’t have a problem with nap time
It was mandatory when I was in kindergarten in 1964 and I’m still a big fan at 66.

I would assume it is a 2 hour window to take a 30 minute nap as part of lunch time.

Yeah. I read it. You’re right. It was well crafted and worth considering.

I'm not so self-absorbed or egotistical that it's going to turn me off the forum, but one wonders... when a solid post that talks about current tech trends in the workplace, and how I (in particular) are leveraging and adapting to those current tech trends... seems like this is the sort of original content that Free Republic should treasure and encourage.

Oh well. Not my circus; not my monkeys. 🤔

We had nap time in school too. Nursery school. I was 4.

In most urban public schools (KCMO certainly included) the entire DAY is pretty much a nap for incompetent teachers (with pay) and illiterate animals, er I mean students.

At least it keeps them off the street for a little while.

The last time I had nap time in school was in kindergarten. Starting in first grade we had a 15 minute morning and afternoon recess where we went outside to play and run around. A two hour nap is ridiculous, students need to put down their phones and get outside to exercise and wake up.

Yes. When I was a kid, SO many years ago, we took naps in our schools. (Not for TWO hours though.) We had small throw rugs to put on the desks for our heads. Everybody benefited by this.

When I was in Kindergarten in 1955, we brought small throw rugs that we laid on the floor and took 30 minute naps. But kindergarten was the only time we did that not in later grades.

I'm torn there.

If they did work I'm almost more afraid of what they'd teach than if the kids did sleep.

"WOW"

Yeah. Current RAT black Mayor named Malik Evans (my niece went to high school with him) replaced [Not So] Lovely Warren in 2022. She's also a black RAT, and was arrested and convicted of election campaign finance meddling.

About the same time, her husband Timothy Granison was arrested on possession of 500 grams of cocaine as part of a mid-level narcotics ring. Six others that were involved were arrested. The same day her husband was arrested a search warrant was served on their home. During the search, police discovered two firearms, an unregistered handgun and a rifle. Granison and Warren were later charged with criminal possession of a firearm, endangering the welfare of a child and failure to secure a firearm. They both pleaded not guilty.

Warren resigned from office after accepting a plea deal, a deal which satisfied all charges from the gun and child endangerment case as well as a campaign fraud case against her. She had been charged with two felonies. In the plea deal, they were knocked down to misdemeanors. Her husband wasn't so lucky, he got 32 months in prison.
