Royal Caribbean’s newest cruise ship is the world’s largest.
The Hero of the Seas, set to launch late next summer, includes a record-breaking water park, the most pools at sea, 28 dining options, a multi-level family treehouse, and a kinetic sculpture, just for kicks.
Billed by Royal Caribbean as “the most unstoppable, incredible, revolutionary family vacation ever,” the high-stimulation vessel, which appears to have been designed by an eleven-year-old child high on cocaine, will officially open for bookings on Thursday, April 2.
The Hero of the Seas belongs to Royal Caribbean’s Icon class, the cruise line’s newest generation of ships, which also includes Icon, Legend, and Star of the Seas.
These mega-ships combine resort-style amenities and family-focused neighborhoods.
“Icon Class truly set a new standard for family vacations, and Hero of the Seas takes that vision even further,” said Michael Bayley, president and CEO, Royal Caribbean, in a press release.
“With more water, more thrills and more choices for all ages, we’re continuing to build on what our guests love about Royal Caribbean and delivering the experiences families are looking for when vacationing together,” he continued.
While aboard Hero of the Seas, guests can swim at nine distinct pools, including family-friendly spaces, adult-only options, and, because maximalism and max escapism during an economic downturn are the vibe of this here vessel, the world’s largest onboard swim-up bar.

My first cruise was on Wonder of the Seas in 2023, followed by 2 cruises on Navigator in 2024 & then Harmony of the Seas last fall. We’re planning another cruise on Navigator to Cabo in late summer, mainly because LA is closer to Phoenix than any other port, plus it’s mostly sea days which I love.
I remember that. I was about 14.
Wife and I spent almost 2 weeks in DC once. Got a high end room for $25 a night ( worked for the hotel company and had connections).
It was 1991. ALL TV was pre-empted with the Clarence Thomas confirmation hearings. Say him say “high tech lynching” live.

I for one, wouldn’t want to be stuck on a boat with that many people.
I spent n 2 years on a Heavy Cruiser in the USN. We hit some very heavy storms and our ship was not near as top heavy as this new ship is. I wouldn’t go to sea on this one even if was free of charge. In wouldn’t be a surprise if one of these top heavy commercial ships breaks down and gets caught in a bad storm and goes down.
arrange to go for ride-a-longs with local patrol LEOs on Friday or Saturday evenings during the summer, preferably in urban or suburban settings ... 1,000% more entertaining than any amusement park ...

They do have quarantine, ya know. Know someone who got diagnosed on the first day. The only sick passenger. Locked in a room 3 of the 5 days. No refund. Done.
I just worry about being stuck with a few thousand folks who you wouldn’t normally hang with anyway. Run out of food fast. Then the water goes. Could be a movie.
