“A federal judge has struck down some of the Defense Department's strict controls on how journalists with access to the Pentagon are allowed to report — ending a policy that caused many news outlets to leave the Pentagon. U.S. District Judge Paul L. Friedman sided with the New York Times and a reporter at the newspaper, Julian E. Barnes, who sued in December, arguing the new Pentagon policy violated the First Amendment, Fifth Amendment and due process provision of the Constitution.”

Of course they do. There are people who need to be controlled. The communist revolutionaries are gaining control because of the aversion that Republicans have to the use of State power.
As I said, Republicans are just not into the power thing. They also seem to have an aversion to leading. Expecting them to suddenly grow a spine and start wielding State power just isn’t going to happen.
Its their perennial weakness that incentivizes Democrats to be so aggressive.
It’s not about the briefings, it’s about cruising the Pentagon hallways, snooping for classified docs lying out just waiting to be photographed, then sharing it with the highest bidders. Or, while doing the above, also recording sensitive discussions to likewise share.
The media are the loose lips spoken of by military leaders.

LOL!! Yet Judges can restrict the press and cameras in their own courtrooms, and even determine if a trial will be televised or not.
Of course, Congress has this power (but rarely uses it), not the executive branch. But we are no longer playing by the limits set in the Constitution.
