At least 2,000 flights were canceled Sunday as winter blizzards continue to batter the Upper Midwest, turning at least one normally bustling airport into a virtual ghost town.
According to the latest data from FlightAware, U.S. flight cancellations Sunday accounted for roughly 78% of all canceled flights worldwide, with at least 2,216 flights grounded out of roughly 2,842 global cancellations.
Meanwhile, an additional 6,826 delays have reportedly rippled across the national air network, further straining travel schedules across the world.
Many airlines have since issued guidelines allowing passengers to change their flights without major fees, providing flexibility for travelers affected by the winter storms.
The epicenter of the disruptions remains in the Midwest, with the heaviest impact centered on Chicago, followed by Minneapolis. The fallout has created noticeable ripple effects at other major U.S. airports, including Atlanta and Denver.
The airport seeing the largest impact by sheer volume is Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport, with a reported 790 flights affected, according to FlyChicago.

Ah. I remember what it was like to live in Minneapolis. I lived there for 2 years in 05 and 06. I got the hell out for precisely this reason. Its the middle of March and they’re having blizzards. We’re in short sleaves here in Charlotte.
It’ll be 29° by this time tomorrow after the front rolls thru. Don’t put the long johns away just yet.
Well our politicians of course! Send them all of your money and they will tackle “climate change” wink wink
Why, the Magnificent Bastard, Karl Rove. Who else?
In Minneapolis this morning I have ten inches of snow and 6°F this morning.
Light jacket and Crocs weather.
I never want to get that used to it. I hear summers there are the best. They don’t brag about the winters.
The summers are very nice, but short.
Wicked winds, severe storms to wreak havoc in US, forcing school closures and even Congress to cancel votes
High 70s today, savage thunderstorms coming, destructive wind, maybe a tornado and then snow tonight.
This is insane.
Right about now I sure wish I had a basement.
At the very least.
There’s probably worse things by now.
Good time to privative TSA and let the airlines pay the wages in the private sector.
Winter was not a good time to take a “spring” break and yet “americans” are still mobbing the airports. Blizzards are hell in bikinis and “wet T-shirts.” Especially when the communist RATS, Schumer and his butt buddy, King Hakeem are busy shutting down and ripping America apart to prevent their beloved, illegal alien “neighbors” sewage from being sent home where they belong.
Global warming.
I wonder if this storm will be classified as a derecho by the NWS. It blew through my area of central Illinois about 12 hours ago and it appears it has maintained it’s intensity. It was 65 when the storm hit. It is now 27 and getting some wrap around snow showers.
I have a long memory and remember an ice storm in the NE Oklahoma area middle of March 1965. Shut down the area for a couple of days.
But the BIG ONE came with 14 inches of blowing snow, March 12, 1968.Drifts everywhere shut down the entire NE Oklahoma and 4 state area for over a week.
It was in the 70s two days ago. I took off the covers on the windows. Today it is 17 degrees here.
I HATE WINTER!
Spring Break Monster Blizzards can be a real b**** when it comes to swimwear and beer sales.
I’m in upper Michigan, and the winds outside my house right now are downright scary. We’re under about three feet of snow. I’m amazed the power hasn’t gone out.
Global warming...we need to raise taxes to stop it... 😀
