You are missing the point. If extraordinary science applicable to national defense were to grow out of modern investigations, a lot of it may well have been kept secret and compartmentalized. (The development of the Lockheed U2 was an example.) Nobody ‘knows everything’, and we have stories of even presidents believing they were left out of the loop on certain issues.

If such technology existed the temptation to use would be irresistible. We would have conquered the world with it. There would no quibbling over energy. If someone else had it we’d be conquered!
