Most people probably had to pay a company to help them. I checked into it years ago, and the original law wasn’t as simple as it sounded. IIRC, it had some restrictions on female ancestors, and the ancestor had to have retained Italian citizenship. It seemed that, for example, an Italian-born grandmother might not qualify someone for citizenship, but the great-grandfathers might. Maybe someone here who was granted citizenship can tell us more.
