He was buried barefoot.
In the early 60’s he won a spelling bee broadcast on WHTC in Holland, MI. The MC introduced him as being barefoot. I have a recording of that broadcast. He won by spelling the word “avenue” correctly.
I remember him in our basement, hand-grinding the glass that would become a part of his homemade Cassagranian telescope.
Anyway, he was deeply thankful for FR, and how it gives people from various points of expertise to exchange thoughts. He served as an evangelist of sorts for FR.
