After complaining for years that Gen Z grads are difficult to work with, bosses are no longer all talk, no action: Now they’re rapidly firing young workers who aren’t up to scratch just months after hiring them.
The numbers are stark. According to a survey, six in 10 employers admitted they had already sacked the Gen Z workers they had hired fresh out of college.
Intelligent.com, a platform dedicated to helping young professionals navigate the future of work, surveyed nearly 1,000 U.S. business leaders. It found that the class of 2024’s shortcomings are shaping how bosses hire next—and it’s not good news for future grads.(snip)
So where is it going wrong for fresh-faced graduates?
Employers’ gripe with young people today is their lack of motivation or initiative—50% of the leaders surveyed cited that as the reason why things didn’t work out with their new hire.
Bosses also pointed to Gen Z being unprofessional, unorganized, and having poor communication skills as their top reasons for having to sack grads.
Leaders say they have struggled with the latest generation’s tangible challenges, including being late to work and meetings often, not wearing office-appropriate clothing, and using language appropriate for the workspace.
Now, more than half of hiring managers have come to the conclusion that college grads are unprepared for the world of work.

And not once did you mention the benefits you give your workers, so good job I suppose for your top award of most employee turnover
1.) No jobs for kids now: paper boy, grass cutter, caddie, baby sitting, McD or other FF place. These are more adult jobs or illegals' jobs nowadays, or they just don't exist.
2.) Adults used to take young kids on more for the training than the value the kids had as employees. It was a sort of responsibility adults felt they had to prepare the next generation for life. That's gone.
3.) Kids going to and from work and being alone in the workplace like sweeping a parking lot is too dangerous. Pervs, child abductors, murderers, now are not really punished. So they abound. No one wants to worry about his kid going to and from.
4.) Morality teaching of today (such as it is) doesn't emphasize the value of work, especially really hard work, at developing character.
Schools now want the kids totally devoted time-wise to indoctrination/school: Taking forever to teach much less; stupid activities involving travel and late after school hours; interminable sports practices and games involving travel teams; silly service requirements that are useless and dangerous for kids.
Summary: Kids never learn to focus on a task, get it done fast, don't take forever to do homework; to hustle, to learn a task quickly, to struggle at something hard and see how the adult masters the task. How to figure out the flow of work.
Now the morons they have in public schools teaching just slog through boring day after boring day, and since they have mastered nothing, except how to resent the successful, they pass this on to the kids.
Some possible solutions: Do away with minimum wage. Get young kids doing chores then early in life, jobs with progressive responsibility. For criminal kids, stocks or jail or corporal punishment for crimes, including petty crimes -- not community service or probation.
Long or capital sentences for serious crimes for anyone harming a child.
Shorten the school year and bring back entry level jobs and especially summer jobs.
Bring back the draft, which Pres. Trump mentioned the other day.
If you think about it, it's all a part of the Communist plan to make people scared to work, scared to marry and have a family, scared of the workplace, scared and too lazy to do anything except gripe about other people who HAVE achieved something.
Then, have a class of criminals prey upon everyone to block any kind of orderly nurturing of the young to adopt good, adult habits, and instead remain perpetual children, dependent on the gubmint.
It's working.
and what’s so great about work?

Granddaughter #2 will be going into Navy boot in June after she graduates HS.
She goes to the Navy recruiting center several times a week for PT, testing and training.
She has been promoted and now (so far) when she completes boot she will be a E3 (Seaman).
No one else in her recruiting class has exceeded E1.
Lol, was it the mention of Nixon in the tag line that gave you the idea I’m not looking for work? Like I said, you sound unemployable.
That sort of idea has been the daydream of managers and executives for as long as I been in the workforce. And there is always some new thing presented by a smooth-talking marketing guy which promises to deliver on that dream.
The new thing never delivers the dream.
AI is the next "new thing". It will indeed provide amazing results that will be used to radically change some workplaces. But is not going to be cheap and it will take very smart people to use it and get any worthwhile results from it. Very smart people are always in short supply.
I am self employed unlike you who seems to love telling young white men to slave under DEI managers
Keep making lame excuses. DEI is DEAD. As soon as President Trump got re-elected companies couldn't ditch it fast enough.
Grow up and stop making excuses. All you're doing is proving everyone criticizing you on this post 100% correct.
I wonder what that means, self employed doing what?
Articles like this are just Boomer propaganda, to make Boomers not feel as bad on how they are screwing over their kids and grandkids.
I would take one Gen-Z over five Boomers.
The problem with Gen-Z is finding things for them to do, give them a task and they do it too fast,
meanwhile dumb Boomers take days to write a word document typing away with their one finger. They day I never hear the words, “Can someone help me format my word document?” or “How do you put a watermark on a PDF? or “I think my Whiff fee isn’t working” can’t come soon enough.
“DEI is DEAD”

“”””I would take one Gen-Z over five Boomers.””””
It seems like that would be an easy wish to fulfill, hire the help you want.
Meaning unlike a business you would run I do not have a Shaniqua or Arjun looking over my shoulder finding some reason to fire me for being white
You make a lot of really goofy, nonsensical posts, almost all of them.
I wish I could, but these dam Boomers have nothing else in their lives and won’t die/retire, so I am stuck with them.
Boomers not retiring is a big reason for lots of the issues with jobs and affordability today. Boomers are blocking Gen-X from Senior Management and it cascades down, since Gen-X can’t move up they are stuck in Middle Management blocking the Millennials from those jobs who in turn are blocking the Gen-Z from entry level jobs.
But who cares about families and future generations, it’s all about the Boomers feeling fulfilled and good about themselves.
1000 years from now, that generation will still be cursed.
Care to link to that supposed quote?
That post shows what you were really posting about, feeling that the world is holding you back and not seeing how wonderful you really are, and that is why you aren’t fulfilling your fantasies.
Filling sorry for yourself and blaming others (even generations of others) is not a trait for getting ahead.
“Do high schoolers work anymore?”
No, they don’t. Minimum wage laws have priced them out of the job market.
It’s all those late nights staying up watching the late night jackass “comedians” while getting drunk and high.
