SEN RAND PAUL: America is at war—but Americans didn’t vote for it
Fox News (Digital) ^ | March 8 | Senator Rand Paul

Posted on 03/06/2026 5:27:04 AM PST by RandFan

Once war begins and American soldiers are under fire, a rational discussion of the pros and cons of war becomes nearly impossible. That is exactly why our Founders wrote a Constitution that demands a debate before the initiation of war.

But there was no debate in Congress, let alone a vote. On Feb. 28, Americans awoke to discover that their country was once again embroiled in a war in the Middle East.

Americans were not asked if they would bear the burdens of war. Instead, the American people were told, through a presidential eight-minute video posted around 2:30 in the morning, that the country was, once again, at war.

And because there was no national discussion about going to war, we do not know whether ground troops will be used. We have no idea how long the war will last. We have no idea who will lead Iran after the death of the supreme leader. And we have no idea how many casualties the American people are supposed to tolerate. We cannot know the answer to these questions because no one bothered to make the case that war with Iran was worth the sacrifice.

The Senate is only now debating whether hostilities should end after they’ve already begun. Before I discuss the merits of this war, I want to say that my prayers, and those of my family, are with the troops in the region, those in combat and anyone who may be called to serve.

I do not take lightly that combat has begun, that many have been severely injured, and that lives have been lost.

Yes, you have said as much, many here repeatedly stated Trump made this clear enough they understood this when they voted for him and you continue to say if people knew this, they would not have voted for him.

People I know IRL say the same, they understood this was trump’s policy before he was elected.

I reject your premise that this was somehow hidden or not clear to people before they voted. The people saying that are being politically obfuscating.

You understand, of course, that the aftermath of this is ultimately going to dictate how receptive the voters are to what has been unfolding.

I am not much of a prognosticator ... but if my e-mail inbox and text inbox are any indication, I think the Republican Party is panicking over a massive loss of support.

I have no doubt your inbox gets flooded with such messages. In my experience those messages have been the same and written with the same sense of urgency every election cycle, even before email, snail mail flyers had the same panicked fundraising messages.

I ignore them and choose to read forums, talk to people and first put my moral and ethical beliefs above the zeitgeist.

Rand’s point is it (debate) should happen before action is taken

Yes and that way the enemy would have a fair chance of striking first while Paul argues.

Or the enemy leadership dispersing and going deep underground, making decapitation strikes incredibly difficult.

There is a national public consensus against terrorism and that Iran should not have nuclear weapons. Candidates often stated their opposition to both.

Which exactly what is wrong with the Democrats, they are going against the American people who overwhelmingly voted for DJT. They have zero respect for the constitution, our military and thus the American people.

I can not imagine any U.S. Senator saying anything like this, let alone during war. Just who the hell does this loser think he is, a man who came in on the bra straps of his mentally compromised wife, shot by a mass shooter.

Mark Kelly yesterday with Jen Psaki…..

“I watch this group of people who were supposed to be leading our country, not just the president, secretary of defense and others ... and I’m thinking you could pick a random group of people off the street tonight here in Washington, D.C., just a random group, and they could probably do a better job than our government is doing right now with this,” Kelly said. “They don’t have a goal. There’s no strategic plan. There’s no timeline. And what this is likely to lead to is, again, a long war with a lot of dead Americans and no rationale for how this is helping the American people.”

Paul is off his meds again. He forgets this preemptive action is Trump in his brilliance knowing what was coming from Iran with their intense development of Nukes. Trump knows that the dems allowed millions of muslims into the US for their vote at any cost to our culture. As soon as Iran felt the American population was saturated with muslims Iran would have threatened to eradicate as many Americans as necessary to turn the Country muslim at any cost. Muslims have built thousands of mosques to perpetuate their quota very quietly. When the saturation point was reached Iran possibly would have threatened to fired off their ballistic weapons. Their possibly are military grade munitions stored in many of these mosques.

I’m not referring to the general fundraising messages I’ve been getting for years. I’m talking about an extraordinary flood of messages that began within the last five days.

Well I can’t speak to those, all I can do is add my experience which is I am not getting flooded with those kinds of messages but can understand how some regions may be getting such messaging in an attempt to manage the narrative either way.

In general, I am very skeptical of all unsolicited messaging.

I would say we finally accepted the declaration of war tendered to us repeatedly since 1979.

Do you ever think for yourself or just what Rand Paul thinks for you?

If Paul was 100% FOR this action you’d be posting Rah Rah Rah.

I’m FRs favorite punch bag 😂

Often, I think people just love to vent and I provide that opportunity.

Perhaps i’m in danger of becoming stereotyped.

To answer your question: No, I’m just in sync with Rand and agree with most of his positions along with his dad mind you and some other GOP Officials like Rep. Massie.

“Did Paul speak up when other presidents did these same things during their administrations? “

Actually, yeah - he did.

Well, good, I’m glad to hear that, but still, I think this isn’t technically a war, the way they used to be fought. We established air superiority in 2 days, not weeks, months, or years.

The President has my full support.

P.S. We had a narrow window to ACT. China and Russia were sending more missiles. Iran and others want America to be obliterated from the map. To them, we are the great Satan.

It’s either us or them. Which do you want?

I want America to win.
