The first music videos weren’t on video at all - they were on film - special movies played in coin-operated machines called Scopitone. Here’s Neil’s “Calendar Girl”:

The advantages of adding sight to sound are obvious.

RIP and thanks for all the music, Neil.

“August” and “December “ were worth the price of admission. I’m amazed they got away with those two …Sad to think those ladies are all pushing 85 now.

Some of his 70s stuff scared me as a kid. Just didnt like some of those songs back then. Just something off about them. Not just his, not singling him out at all. Glad he had a good career and apparently a full personal life.

FWIW from Wikipedia:

Sedaka underwent a procedure to remove a benign skin tumor from his nose in March 2021.[63]

On February 27, 2026, Sedaka was hospitalized in Los Angeles after experiencing an undisclosed medical emergency, later disclosed to be a drug overdose[64] and died on the same day.[65] He was 86.

After looking at the sources, Wikipedia is full of crap, there’s no evidence it was an overdose.

That’s why you can’t trust them.

My mom loved “Love Will Keep Us Together.,” and I have it on my phone. I don’t recall her having enthusiasm for any other Sedaka work, but only years later did I realize that “Bad Blood” includes the word “b****” in the lyrics. Even then I put the word in the second category of profanity, but profanity it still was. So my opinion of him dropped ever after.

That was a duet with Elton John, and IIRC that was also right around the time Elton did “The B**** Is Back”, so apparently Elton really liked that word.

I remember him well, and liked his songs. Wasn’t he the one who sang “Sad Eyes?”
