New York Sehri & Iftar Time Today

Today is the 10th day of Ramadan 2026 and the 2nd Friday Muslim communal day of worship.

Taraweeh refers to special Sunnah (a type of optional or non-obligatory ritual prayer performed by Muslims in addition to the 5 daily obligatory prayers. These prayers are associated with the practices of the Islamic Prophet Muhammad and are considered commendable.) prayers performed exclusively during the Islamic month of Ramadan. The prayers involve the recitation of long portions of the Quran, consist of any number of even rak'a (cycles of prostration in an Islamic prayer), however most of the time either 8 or 20, and are often finished with the Witr prayer (Islamic prayer (salat) that is performed at night after Isha (night-time prayer) or before fajr (dawn prayer). A key feature of Taraweeh is the completion of the Quran during the month. The practice remains a significant aspect of Ramadan worship for many Muslims.

The media reports that there are currently 500+ mosques within the 5 NYC boroughs. Starting in 2023 (possibly 2022), NY Mayor Eric Adams granted permission for Muslims to gather on Times Square on Fridays after sunset during Ramadan to worship and break their day-long fast. The tradition has continued under Mayor Mamdani. Wonder if he will show up on Times Square during Taraweeh?

This public prayer is not a display of peace. It is an act of intimidation held in the public's right of way. This has been happening all over Europe since the 2015 hijrah.

If any Freepers have URL links to live web-cams on Times Square, please post them. Times Square is 5 blocks long and I have no clue where the Muslim worshippers will gather. I have posted 2 live web-cam links below.

It is approaching 25 years after 9/11, and Muslims have still not built the Cordoba House/ Park51 Islamic community center 2 blocks north of Ground Zero - but they haven't given up. Other Freepers have wondered if Mayor Mamdani is going to make this a priority on his watch.

A diagram showing the areas where debris from American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175 fell upon Lower Manhattan during the course of the September 11 Islamic terror attacks. When United Airlines Flight 175 struck the South Tower of the World Trade Center, part of the plane's landing gear, engine and fuselage came out the north side of the tower and crashed 2 blocks north of the WTC Plaza, through the roof of 45–47 Park Place, and through 2 of its floors.

Artist's rendering of the originally proposed Cordoba House/ Park51, a development originally envisioned as a 13-story Islamic community center and mosque in Lower Manhattan, New York City. The developers hoped to promote an interfaith dialogue within the greater community. Due to its proposed location, 2 blocks north of the World Trade Center site of the 9/11 attacks, the proposed building was widely and controversially referred to as the "Ground Zero Mosque" In May 2016, financing was secured for a 43-story condominium building with room for an Islamic cultural museum adjacent to it at the 49–51 Park Place location. The condominium building, called 45 Park Place, started construction in 2017 and was nearly completed by 2019. Construction of the Islamic cultural space, slated to contain 16,000 square feet (1,500 m2) of space and measure 71 feet (22 m) tall at 51 Park Place, had not begun as of 2025.

Not *all* moslems are mass murderers or supporters of mass murderers but a very substantial percentage of them are!

There used to be an excellent electronics store (J&R,now out of business) within walking distance of the WTC that I used to visit occasionally. The walk from the subway station to the store took you past an Episcopal Church that is very old and very famous.IIRC debris from the attack landed on the church's grounds but didn't damage the church itself.

True, and I pray for those missionaries who are spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ in Muslim lands.

There's a great video that was on youtube years ago (don't know if it's still there) which showed a “flashmob” in a shopping mall in Beirut around Easter time. Several people got up and started singing a song about Christ's Resurrection...in Arabic. It was very beautiful...very powerful.

The Episcopal church you saw must be Trinity Church located about 2 blocks south of WTC-2. It was not damaged on 9/11. However, St. Paul's Chapel, which is affiliated with Trinity Church, is located 2 blocks east of the WTCs. A great deal of wreckage from 9/11 fell on that property.

And the sizeable Christian populations scattered across the Middle East no longer exist - except for maybe Egypt’s Coptic Church. The Christians in Syria and Lebanon continue to be persecuted and their numbers continue to decrease.

Yes,it was east. I recall reading that debris fell on the property but little,or no,damage was suffered by the structure itself.

Thanks for sharing that. 2016 - the hijrah to Europe was gearing up and ISIS was still going strong in Syria. It would be interesting to how matters in Lebanon are today.

I asked: “How much of islam is “kill the unbelievers”?”

AI responded: “Islam teaches a range of principles, including both peace and conflict, but the interpretation of verses related to violence, such as “kill the unbelievers,” varies widely among scholars and practitioners. Many Muslims emphasize that such verses are contextual and should not be taken as blanket commands for violence against non-Muslims.”

The United States of America is not these United States as envisioned 250 years ago.

We are politicized entity of economic zones ruled by corporations fueled by the investor class and driven by multicultural diversity where Jesus Christ has been replaced by shareholders' value.

The value is what is worshiped, ROE/ROI we all must bow down because hardly anyone takes the Primary Cause seriously anymore. All hail shareholders value, usury, and compound interest!!!

The Qu'ran is comprised of 114 chapters of verses that were revealed by the angel Jibril (Gabriel) to the Prophet Muhammad over ~22 years - 10 years in Mecca and 12 in Medina. The chapters are roughly arranged/ordered by decreasing length in the Qu'ran, i.e., they are not presented chronologically. The chapters in Mecca were peaceful in nature when the Prophet Muhammad was proselytizing to the polytheists in Mecca, with minimal conversion success. The chapters from his time in Medina, after the hijrah from Mecca, are much more violent in nature. This corresponds to the time the Prophet Muhammad was violently conquering other tribes in Arabia and either converting them, subjugating them, or killing them. In Islam, if there is a conflict between scriptures, e.g., peace vs. war, the later scripture supercedes.

Muslim proselytizers to non-Muslims, especially in the Western World, know this and simply quote the peaceful verses to the non-believers, i.e., they lie/ taqiyan.
