My MD did NOT suggest or encourage me to get a vax.

Me: “I had a covid test and I’m OK. Do I need a vax?

Dr: “You look very healthy to me. Come back in six months.””

There is probably a knee-jerk reaction in FR to jump towards covid, but this is the first 3 months of the baby’s life and it is those other illnesses that are far more dangerous in that time period then covid.

There were no covid deaths to speak of below age 65. Now infants in the first 3 months could be a difference configuration, but best not to dwell on that because this is not about covid. This is about most particularly diphtheria which is in the Tdap vax. Diphtheria destroyed entire villages of infants in England in the 1800s.

The problem is that the standard vaccination schedule for newborns does not have them protected until after 3 months.

The bottom line here is that evaluating the norms should just reject covid in the package of threats. It’s possible that her family members maybe willing to get some of those other vaccinations. But in an overall sense the correct way to handle this is simply have that child do the initial 3 months vaccination schedule and then have the family come see it

My employer was a big DoD contractor. They were pressured by DoD to push employees to get the COVID shot. The word from HR was: get the shot, get an medical exemption from your doctor or plan to leave the company. That directive arrived around November 1. November 11th was the final day for open enrollment for healthcare plans. I wrote a detailed letter to my doctor explaining exactly why the COVID shot would be a health disaster for me. He concurred and wrote an exemption letter. It was sent to HR. If they accepted the exemption, I would sign up for the healthcare coverage and stay on the payroll. If not, I would initiate retirement immediately. They accepted the exemption. It was a simple choice because I worked remotely and never set foot on company premises after September 2017.

We haven’t been vaxxed except I did take the tetanus shot because my Dr said that was the only one she thought important..not covid, not shingles, not pneumovax..since she was reasonable I followed her advice.

My doctor wanted me to explain my “vaccine hesitancy.” I did, and he stormed out of the room.
