'Sinners' actor says BAFTA hasn't reached out after N-word incident with Tourette's advocate

After a Tourette syndrome advocate shouted the N-word at “Sinners” actors Delroy Lindo and Michael B. Jordan during Sunday’s BAFTA Awards, Lindo says organizers of the event had yet to reach out about the incident.

John Davidson, the inspiration for the BAFTA-nominated biopic “I Swear,” disrupted the ceremony with several involuntary outbursts of expletives and slurs, a symptom of the nervous system disorder.

I watch Baylen and never heard her say n-word on show.

I assume it would be bleeped out if she had.

I think we should just play one of their songs saying that, or a movie with Samuel L Jackson saying it, if we want to say it.

Its just such a stupid thing. Anyone who knows the term knows its not as much a race/color thing as it is a lazy ass grifter mindset. Even Sheets Byrd said so, he made the clear point there are N’s of all colors. “There are white N’s”, I remember him saying that. It got turned into a black thing because down south a lot of whites hired blacks to do things and ran into those that wanted to get paid but didn’t do much/what they agreed to do. Its a mindset/mentality. Sheets is right, there are N’s of all races and colors.

My wife and I watch that show but I don’t recall her ever saying that.

But she sure throws out “suck a d!#% bitch” quite often.

Can we just not post BS from the Huffpost or daily beast? There is nothing wrong with drawing a line.

Especially since BAFTA stands for:

British Academy of Film and Television Arts

So, it wasn't even something that happened here, and Britain has far more presssing problems.

Tourette’s can also be a temporary phenomenon.

Like say you were dawg drunk or under the influence of some medication and temporarily inclined to say outrageous things not normally in your vocabulary... generally the same stuff spews out that you say when you do something like burn yourself with a hot pot... or it may be phrases and words spoken by others that you NEVER would say sober... often things you heard as a child.

Yeah. I don’t get this. They must have known the guy has that condition when they invited him...like the Frog and the Scorpion story-they should have known when they let him hop on their backs.

I used to know a woman who had it, and while you were conversing with her, she would place one hand under each breast and shove her breasts upwards with each hand, and grunt loudly when she would do it.

As a guy, it was unnerving in a professional setting, and I mentioned it to a guy I worked with and he said she had that condition.

Tourette’s. It’s a nice excuse to have complete freedom of speech. You have to wonder what is going on in the head of someone who feels the need to yell the n word at black people. He could have yelled the F word or the S word or any one of the C words. Or all of them. I think people with Tourette’s should be shunned. Sorry.

I have always wondered how Tourette’s with coprolalia has survived through the ages. It is difficult for me to see someone suddenly jumping up, cursing, calling people names and surviving the ensuing gunfight in the Old West? Genetically this version of TS should have been wiped out years ago. As for those that continue with the tics into adulthood, most would not have found mates in the old world, so genetically it too should have died out sometime in the last 150 years. But what do I know?

Isn’t it discriminatory to allow one group of people to use a word without consequences while another group suffers sever consequences for using the same word, based solely on the race of the speaker?

Back in the old days, when I started work in a large factory, we used all the words for each others’ race, ethnicity, religion, sex, sexual orientation, etc. And had a great time doing it. Then bought each other a beer in the bar after work.

The Beeb edited some out, chose to leave the n-word in...

Mistake, my gluteus maximus.

I have seen people with Tourette’s, but the more common version where they have tics and such. I have never met anyone with the version that comes with coprolalia, which is where someone starts swearing or saying inappropriate stuff. So, pardon my ignorance on the matter.

I was wondering though if those with coprolalia HAVE to say something negative. Can they yell ‘you’re beautiful’ or ‘nice suit’, or does it have to be something insulting?

I don’t drink, but when I did, even when inebriated, I wouldn’t go and call some baldie or call a woman fat. Maybe if I was angry at someone I might say something nasty (out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks and all that …), but I wouldn’t be seated at the bar calling someone a rabid giraffe and another a toothless Pygmy.

Now, I know Tourette’s is not like that (as I said, pardon my ignorance on the disease), but why is it always bad words that come out?

Or can coprolalia result in someone saying ‘nice watch’ sometimes?
