Free condoms for competitors at the Winter Olympics have run out within a record-breaking three days, according to La Stampa.
“The supplies ran out in just three days,” an anonymous athlete told the Italian newspaper. “They promised us more will arrive, but who knows when.”
It blamed the Olympic organisers, saying they had not been “particularly generous with the numbers”. “In Paris the athletes received 300,000 condoms — two per day each— but the numbers for these Winter Games were significantly lower: not even 10,000,” La Stampa’s report states.
Just under 3,000 athletes are competing at the Winter Olympics, compared to around 10,500 in the Paris Games two years ago.

Just the other day there was a story about a female Olympian who was hoping to meet someone. I mentioned the huge condom use in the Olympic village during past games. Looks like hookup culture is still popular among elite athletes.
I remember hearing Rush talking about this back in the day....apparently the Olympic village has always been one big orgy.
Maybe its just me, but my opinion of the Olympics has gone downhill this year. There are many more stories of childish behavior, political rants, sexual libertinism like this and other crassness and low-rent behavior. Maybe they were better able to control the narrative in the past before social media blew up. But whatever the reason, the Olympics is turning into one more soap opera.

I’ve been to the Winter Olympics. It is definately a social event first and foremost for many attendees and even athletes. Most athletes are not in contention for medals and are there just for the festivities. I went to a figure skating event and just had to laugh at all the fur coats, heavy make up, fancy jewelry, etc., worn by ticket holders at a “sporting event”.
It’s no wonder when you see some of those Swedish, Norwegian women and other women from around the world.
Kind of like the typical convention.

Exactly. The worst are the Olympic officials. Social climbing and snobbery off the charts. I did notice it is a great place for a guy to “volunteer”. My impression was come evening time a huge percentage of the female volunteers and event workers were aggressively looking for short term male companionship.
We used to love to pretend that some people are somehow magically not people with all the inherit flaws that come with that. Don’t think for a second all this stuff hasn’t been happening for a long time.
