Aside from the tranny thing, Palo Alto has long been a sort of national capital of teen suicides. The kids are mostly the offspring of either folks affiliated with Stanford University or top-tier tech workers. There’s a lot of brain power but also a lot of pressure or high expectations, as well as a long-known associations of high IQ with depression, anxiety and other mental maladies.
For those of you unfamiliar, this in a high school in a wealthy area, where people like Joan Baez, Grace Slick, James Franco, Jim Harbaugh, and Jeremy Lin went.
Because the Bay Area is a known bastion of intolerant hateful right wing extremist Christian hateful (or did I already say hateful?) transophobic poopyheads.

They don’t just suicide due to mental illness anymore. They romanticize it, because they’re remembered and talked about, and get to post pretty pictures from tall places. And each one will inspire the next.

Palo Alto High School has had a suicide problem for many, many years. I know it was making the news a lot around 15 years ago when my kiddos were in high school in the Bay Area.
Here’s an article about the previous cluster of suicides. There were a high number of them from the LGTBQ community back then too.
