Discord has announced a major change coming to the service as part of its aim to improve teen safety features. Starting in March, all users globally will be required to submit age verification via a face scan or submitted ID, or be given teen-level access restrictions.
Age verification across apps and social platforms has been an increased focus of legislative bodies around the world in the last couple years.
In response, Discord has announced a major initiative to ensure that only adults see adult-designated content, while teens are restricted to age-appropriate access.
To do this, Discord says all users worldwide will have their accounts updated to a teen designation by default. This will bring “updated communication settings, restricted access to age-gated spaces, and content filtering.”

It’s insane how much personal privacy people are willing to give up in order to calm their FOMO (Fear of Missing Out).
Yep. I currently use it for very general-interest purposes (not doxxing myself thx) and will decline to comply. I’m getting very practiced at declining to comply these last few years.
Dischord has replaced sites such as 4CHAN as “verging on being problematic” and unregulated.
Only black people can’t afford a face if they could even find out how and where to get one!
Especially the last few years. It’s crazy that everyone complained about food during Obama time but now embrace it. Same with age requirements.we turned into sheep.
Millions of gamers, as well as live streamers and their followers use Discord as a drop-in chat space. It’s a place to discuss current or future matters, evaluate past or future content, and just generally converse... A given Discord “Server” can be further divided into “Channels” that can have different access restrictions, and designated purposes within the Server.
A Discord Server can be a great thing to set up for a neighborhood, parents of kids at a specific school, church groups, fishing or hunting buddies, hobbyists — all this witless folderol about what Discord is or isn’t is just sheer lunacy.
Besides, it’s not as if Discord is going to stop the flood by poking their finger into the hole in the the levy. Discord is only one among scores of platforms people can abuse to do nefarious stuff. Discord kow-towing to insurance agents and liability attorneys will stop nothing, but it will drive existing users away. So — ultimately — this is no more than Discord mulling self-destruction attempting to appease people who might well cease to exist if there were nothing to complain about.
Utter stupidity.
