Bad Bunny slammed for ‘drag performances’ as petition to replace him with George Strait at Super Bowl tops 100k signatures

The Super Bowl hasn’t even kicked off yet, but the halftime show is already a fumble in the eyes of over 100,000 disgruntled fans.

A viral petition demanding the NFL ditch Puerto Rican superstar Bad Bunny in favor of country legend George Strait has gained a lot of internet interest, racking up more than 122,000 signatures as of Tuesday morning.

The petition, started in October 2025 by Kar Shell, argues that Strait — the Texas-born country music icon with more than 60 No. 1 hits and decades of chart-topping success — better represents “American music’s rich heritage” and would be more appealing to a broad, cross-generational audience.

“The Super Bowl halftime show should unite our country, honor American culture, and remain family-friendly, not be turned into a political stunt,” the petition reads. “Bad Bunny represents none of these values; his drag performances and style are the opposite of what families expect on football’s biggest stage.”

On Sunday, Bad Bunny took to the Grammys stage to accept an award for Best Música Urbana Album and used the platform to deliver a blunt “ICE Out” message.

I thought Sting was replacing Bad Bunny. why does the NFL think the fans want to see BB?

Their reasoning is always, “well, it’s what is ‘popular’”. Popular to whom? Teenagers and young adults? Certainly not more mature adults, which are the mainstream watching the SB.

I’m not watching, I’ll watch the Turning Point USA alternative and catch up on SB-first commercials on YouTube - but I’m not feeding this garbage.

Watched some 1936 Lions/Bears action on YouTube. A few Bears lineman didn’t need helmets. Could explain a few things.

“He knows his audience. Even here, on Free Republic of all places, there are still those who support the NFL after they spit in the faces of all Americans, kneeling in solidarity with Communist organizations like Black Lives MatterTM and calling white Americans racist.”

Then, we find out the NFL is as scripted as the WWE, yet fanatics still flock to it, bet money on it, and cheer for “their” team. That revelation has cost no one a job, nor diminished viewership. The fact that watching adults playing a kids game and taking it seriously is a little weird anyway, the whole gladiator, arena battle, schtick is lost on me. Can’t even have hot cheerleaders anymore. Gotta have fat ones, trans, etc. No thanks. They can have it!

100K signatures is very likely just the tip of the iceberg. First I’ve heard of this petition, and there’s probably more. Also, online petitions are yet another way to earn more spam and less online privacy- many may sympathize with the petition but won’t sign for that reason too.

The NFL would probably argue that their market research shows certain demographics as more important or valuable than others for whatever reasons. They may be right, but choosing an artist (or more than one artist) at halftime could have earned wider interest and viewership.

Instead, combining this unknown flamer and a Sex Pistols wannabe band that can see its peak clearly in the rear view mirror…. Only creates more space between their brand and its audience.

Life long fan of the NFL here, I’m thinking about reclaiming my Sundays.

That’s great but people who also watch the game are paying for Bad Bunny so the NFL is laughing all the way to the bank.

Please bring back the marching bands, drum and bugle corps, drum majors and drum majorettes and baton twirlers. I’m a Michigan fan, but I would rather watch THE OSU band spell Ohio and dot the I, than any superbowl halftime show since Al Hurt played a few of his songs with a marching band.

Goodell doesn’t pick the halftime performers. It’s been the job of Jay-Z for about 10 years now, I believe.

Same here. Especially with the Chiefs dynasty questionable.

And Roger Goodell is such a dolt.

I just posted a link on the 2026 Puppy Bowl. I’ll be watching that, instead. :)

What’s astonishing is that I’ve actually heard his music. Even HE sounds BORED to the point of tachycardia by his own performance! My guess is that he’s propped up by drug lords, because as banal as pop music sometimes seems, he is an absolute outlier is talentlessness.

My puppy loves to watch it too! Our cat sits with her and they will easily watch an hour of it.

The petition could have 100 million signatures, and it’ll still be full steam ahead for Bad Bunny. My prediction is they’ll never pick a musician who would be relatable to regular white guys again. And they’ll be putting up images of Pretti and Good at this halftime show, I’ll bet.

...cost no one a job, nor diminished viewership.

U.S. viewership is down, hence the focus on gambling and playing games in foreign countries.

The newer stadiums have fewer seats, under the guise of adding more "luxury boxes" and they'll shift seating to the lower decks and toward the end zones in order to hide empty seats during camera shots for field goals.

Merchandise sales are way down. It's not just anecdotal. You barely see any shirts, jackets, hats, flags, bumper stickers, etc. Years ago such merchandise was everywhere.

Fewer bars and restaurants have game day promotions. The places used to be packed on game day. It's not just that fans are watching at home. They're not watching at all.

Even prior to the COVID-1984 lockdowns, office betting pools went from multiple to one if any at all.

They've changed all sorts of rules to keep the scores closer and not just to keep fans interested longer in the season or so that viewers won't switch channels. They need to keep the gambling interest up. The gambling market prefers close games, even if poorly played.

The NFL didn't see a decline in revenue going woke. They were already seeing a decline in revenue and going woke was an attempt to keep up interest.
