Florida nurse gives up license after saying he won’t perform anesthesia on MAGA patients
A Florida nurse who said he would not “perform anesthesia” for “MAGA” patients has relinquished his license.
“Effective today, Erik Martindale is no longer a registered nurse in Florida,” Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier wrote in an X post Thursday.
“Healthcare is not contingent on political beliefs, and we have zero tolerance for partisans who put politics above their ethical duty to treat patients with the respect and dignity they deserve,” he added.
In a since-deleted post on social media, Martindale said, “I will not perform anesthesia for any surgeries or procedures for MAGA. It is my right, it is my ethical oath, and I stand behind my education. I own all of my businesses and I can refuse anyone!”
Martindale later said that his Facebook account was hacked.
A high-ranking state official familiar with the situation confirmed that Martindale relinquished his license, adding he broke the compact agreement by moving out of state to Indiana without notifying the Florida Board of Nursing.
The portal bearing Martindale’s license number and license verification on the Florida Department of Health’s website says he voluntarily relinquished his license in the “license status” field.

Martindale works as a locum tenens, a person who does fill in work. Short staffed during vacation time, or due to staff turnover over you can hire them for coverage. You get paid very well but unless you work for an agency that manages jobs you have no benefits.He is probably licensed in several states.
In fact, far too many people have TDS.

I think if older freepers think back they would remember that nurses were more humble and modest, less full of themselves and more devoted to their calling.

I remember that. And they LOOKED professional — white uniforms, caps, shoes, etc. Now they look like slobs, and their professionalism reflects that. (Or is it a chicken-or-egg kind of thing?)
I spent six months flat on my back in a hospital in the late ‘50s, and the nurses — most of them — were actual angels.
Sounds like nursing has a large percentage of mentally fragile people in the profession. I thought they went into psychiatry and teaching.

My cousin’s daughter is a Nurse Anesthetist, and she does exactly that — an makes a ton of money. It required intensive and extensive training beyond an RN or similar.
I guess his businesses will suffer for lack of morals/ethics/credibility - and he may not be able to obtain insurance due to the circumstances of losing his license - and probably saved himself a willful murder charge down the road...

Even if he could withhold anesthesia, what doctor is going to start cutting on an awake patient?
I read that many, if not most, nurses are Democdrats, so I had better not wear my MAGA hat to my doctor’s appointment next week.
