The man shot dead during a struggle with federal agents in Minneapolis has been identified as an intensive care nurse who treated critically ill military veterans.
Alex Jeffrey Pretti, 37, was killed shortly after 9am Saturday after an altercation involving multiple federal officers.
Minneapolis police confirmed the deceased was a white, 37‑year‑old Minnesota resident and US citizen.
Pretti's friends have since confirmed his identity to the Daily Mail as they paid tribute to the 'good, kind' who they say was 'executed' by a Border Patrol agent.
The University of Minnesota alumnus most recently listed himself as a ‘junior scientist’ on LinkedIn.
He worked as a nurse for the Veterans Health Administration at the Minneapolis VA hospital and earned a reported $90,783 in 2023, according to public records.
‘I worked with him daily for years at the VA hospital,’ Ruth Anway, a Minneapolis‑based nurse, told the Daily Mail.
‘He was an ICU nurse. He worked with veterans. He was a really good guy. He definitely did not deserve to get killed.’
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) told the Daily Mail that agents were in the area attempting to apprehend, ‘an illegal alien wanted for violent assault’ when they were approached by Pretti.
According to DHS, Pretti was armed and carrying a gun with two magazines at the time he was detained. The agency later released a photograph of a nine‑millimeter semi‑automatic handgun it said was recovered during the clash.
Officials claimed officers attempted to disarm Pretti but that he ‘violently resisted’ before a Border Patrol agent fired the fatal shot.
Pretti was pronounced dead at the scene. DHS said he did not have identification on him at the time.
Video from the scene shows agents wrestling with Pretti and taking him to the ground moments before the shooting.

I noticed nobody called him smart.
Video 3: Who is the man in the gray coat who walks away with what appears to be a gun moments before Pretti was shot? Was that Pretti’s gun? Or did Pretti have a second weapon? Or did the gray coat man have one of the two magazines in his hand and not Pretti’s gun? Some clarification needed.
Minneapolis. Or failing that institute rent control which will destroy is just as surely, but a lot slower.
“We have your back 100%. You are SAVING the country. Shame on the leadership of Minnesota — and the lunatics in the street. ICE > MN” 🔥
SECWAR stands with ICE! 🇺🇸
As do I! More ICE please!
“I’ve heard plenty say he was brandishing, including Noem, however that is definitely not the case.”
Odd for you to rely on videos, when you presume to know intimately what happened. According to your logic, four or five officers just grabbed an unarmed man for no reason and put him on the ground. And for some reason, he resisted them.
I think the start off question should be, why did the officer think it was necessary to shoot? There are plenty enough officers who were witnesses. Should not take a long drawn out investigation.
There is no evidence he was gay. His ex WIFE has weighed in, along with his family.

Who gives a damn about the truth now? It sounded good.
The finger biter was another rioter.
That “executed” word showed up everywhere and all at once, even here.
Interesting.
Pathetic seeing the language of the left/commies used, here. :-(
A “good kind man” who carried a gun with two magazines.
His own parents said they warned him not to interact with ICE and made him state that he understood not to do it. Then he went out and did it.
That’s always the refrain when Leftists get shot for interfering with law enforcement. While he may have been a good and kind person, he obviously wasn’t a very smart person who made good decisions.
I think the finger-biter was a different individual, in the riots after the shooting.
A 9mm-semiauto-gun-toting good, kind, martyr, indeed.
‘junior scientist’
That’s what a f-cking 8 year old might say.
Right back at ya - Odd for YOU to rely on articles and hearsay when you presume to know intimately what happened. The brandishing claim is clearly incorrect.
I defer judgement as to whether or not it was a good shoot until I hear what the agent who fired says about it. So you are right that that is the first question.
Leftist moral relativism.
You win the Internet!
With Truth
What started it was an ice officer violently pushed a woman protester to the ground. Pretti stepped between the 2 and put up his hand toward the officer to prevent him from doing anything else to the woman and the ice officer pepper sprayed him and grabbed him. There were 6-7 officers wrestling with him and they looked pathetic. I’m no trained fighter but could have easily brought him down by myself. Then after the guy was already dead another officer emptied 7 more bullets into him. Keystone cops.
He took on 5 Agents who were also armed. Kind man my but*.
