It's amazing to me that no one yet has mentioned the first movie that ever swept the Oscars in the five major categories (Best Screenplay/Director/Picture/Actor/Actress), the movie Ben Manckewicz of Turner Classic Movies calls "the best romantic comedy, that everyone else has been chasing for ninety years", a Frank Capra film (It's a Wonderful Life) starring Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert: It Happened One Night. You want "upbeat, pleasant, funny, feel-good"--that describes it perfectly.

I like most baseball movies.

A movie like It Happens Every Spring (1949), starring Ray Milland?

Tremors

Don’t think that one has been mentioned.

Never seen it. With few exceptions, I usually don’t watch the *really* old movies.

That's similar to the 1936 movie My Man Godfrey, starring William Powell and Carol Lombard.

Miracle is great.

It came out on winter right around the time of my son’s birthday, and that’s what he wanted to do for his birthday. I thought, oh great, a hockey movie. Sounds boring.

It wasn’t. We actually ended up buying the DVD.

It’s very kid friendly.

Dr Strangelove

Yes, it's one of the funniest films ever made (at least if you like dark humor), but don't you think it's something of a stretch to call anything that deals with nuclear annihiliaton of the world a "feel good" movie?

"Planes, Trains and Automobiles".

I dislike most John Hughes films, and both Steve Martin and the late John Candy starred in plenty of duds, but this one is a real winner. It has the right mix of screwball comedy, pathos, and a truly heartfelt (because its believable) and hopeful ending. I watch it every Thanksgiving.

“Running Scared”. Starring Billy Crystal and Gregory Hines. Great buddy movie. Funny and upbeat. I’ve seen it 20 times at least.

You should try to catch it when it rotates on TCM. Probably in April.

“Bend It Like Beckham” is a really sweet film set in the UK about an Indian girl who just wants to play soccer, and her traditional family who are horrified at the idea.

“That Thing You Do” is a great one! Set in the 1960s, about a boy band that has an instant top 40s hit that takes them on a journey to fame... and back. LOL!

Edie McClurg stole the movie. “Gobble! Gobble!”

A well-acted, out of normal casting parameters, film starring John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara: "The Quiet Man". Supporting cast is excellent and sometimes carries the plot better than the stars. But the fight scene near the end of the movie between John Wayne and his pugnacious brother-in-law (Victor Mclaglen) is worth the price of the whole movie ...
