Very, very happy the officer survived. I hope he fully recovers, but what he had to do leaves permanent damage for most people. I have seen this posted several times about cigarettes on arms and losing custody, and have looked myself but cannot find any references to the validity of that claim other than an original post on X.
I asked a couple of Freepers on another thread if they could provide one which they reasonably and politely agreed to do if they could, but I haven’t heard anything back from them yet.
If you know of any reliable sources for this assertion, could you send it to me?
By the way, I am not sticking up for these scummy people either living or dead. They would (and do) freely lie or slander us, and I don’t feel even the slightest sympathy for those on the left who have that lying and slandering thrown back in their face. I am all for giving them a taste of their own medicine so they understand what it feels like.
But we have to keep in mind it is NOT a level playing field between Leftists and Conservatives. Behavior A on the Leftist side is not treated the same way as Behavior A on the Conservative side.
For the sake of the issue at large right now (Stupid Leftist lesbians getting shot in the face for trying to run down an official person supporting the law) it doesn’t do any good to allow those on the Left to use something that may well be untrue to throw out our entire opposition to them and their actions, which is what they will do, with the help and collusion of the entire Democrat party, the Media, and everyone and everything in between.
Personally, I liken this to my “defense” of the now-deceased Senator John McCain. I once served under him in the Navy, and was reluctant to criticize him, not because he was not a piece of crap, but because I felt compelled not to, my having served under him, and before that, having grown up in a Navy family and held years-long vigils for our POW’s in Hanoi. Reluctance to criticize him was ingrained in me.
But I had to finally arrive at the undeniable knowledge of what a piece of human garbage he was, and in the last decade or so of his life, I grew to detest him.
So, when I see people on Free Republic, with no knowledge of the situation, and no knowledge of naval aviation or aircraft carrier flight operations repeatedly assert that “McCain was responsible for the fire aboard the USS Forrestal that killed 134 sailors”, as much as I despise McCain, all it does when making those assertions is give people who support McCain and all the scurrilous things he did the opening to discount any and all opinions to anything he did, and I have to repeatedly and continually over the years suppress that kind of accusation, and am compelled to do so.
Because the people who oppose us have no scruples or morals, and will use a falsehood like those leveled against McCain for the origins of the USS Forrestal fire to completely dispose of any other valid criticisms we might have against him. Even though his actions in the Russiagate Scandal or any of the others he was involved in have absolutely zero to do with the Forrestal Fire, the politicians, activists, and media will discount everything we hold against McCain entirely and completely.
Think of it like this: If conservatives were to rightly call out a Democrat President for taking donations from foreign sources, and also falsely or without proof asserted that he liked to diddle little boys, in the collaborating entities named above (politicians, media, etc.) the valid criticisms of that Democrat President taking foreign donations would be ignored discounted and classified as unreliable because of the unfounded or false charges of him sexually abusing little boys.
We don’t have the luxury Leftists have, that unified coalition of Politicians, Media, Educators, Big Tech, and Activists. They will entirely void our arguments against them using the “all or nothing” approach, but when it is their attacks on us, they are free to lie and slander, and they never get corrected or called out on it, and their manufactured criticisms become part of the official record.
