Ravens fire coach John Harbaugh -- what's next for Baltimore?

OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- In 2008, midway through the Baltimore Ravens' news conference introducing John Harbaugh as their head coach, a reporter referred to the fact that owner Steve Bisciotti said he was searching for the next Pro Football Hall of Fame coach.

"By the way, did you know I said that?" Bisciotti said with a laugh, patting Harbaugh on the back.

Without hesitation, Harbaugh casually responded: "Yeah, I read that somewhere."

Now, 18 seasons later, the Ravens are looking for a new head coach after Harbaugh put together a Hall of Fame career in Baltimore. Harbaugh was fired Tuesday after guiding the Ravens to a Super Bowl title in 2012, six AFC North titles and 193 victories, including 13 in the postseason.

The dismissal of Harbaugh, 63, came two days after Baltimore lost 26-24 at the Pittsburgh Steelers, which eliminated the Ravens from playoff contention for the first time since 2021. Baltimore (8-9) also finished with a losing record for the third time under Harbaugh, who is the franchise's winningest coach.

"Following a comprehensive evaluation of the season and the overall direction of our organization, I decided to make a change at head coach," Bisciotti said in a statement. "This was an incredibly difficult decision."

Ravens can pick up Pete Carroll, and the Raiders can pick up Harbaugh.

I picked up on a leak from Chrissy Van Hollen’s Latin Lovers circle that Chrissy is trying to get the coaching job for his main squeeze and Merryland’s Favorite Father of the Year, Kilmar Garcia aka The Abrego Kid.

Harbaugh is crying all the way to the bank. He got more than a half-dozen job offers within minutes of the announcement.

Scrambling QBs have a short half-life. Lamar’s window of opportunity is closing fast.

A step backwards. Gonna be hard to get a coach that good to replace him. As a Steelers fan I see this as good news. Although with Stefanski and Morris they might not step back. Crazy to see this many good coaches available at a time. I think at least one more team is going to fire their coach just in the hopes of getting one of the 3 good ones.

I never understand in the world of sports why coaches get fired so often. It can happen to a coach who’s actually had great success with the team.

How does management look at things? Do they look at it that if you don’t win a Super Bowl every single season that you’re a failure?

But if they look at it that way, then almost every coach needs to be fired because only one coach wins a championship in any sport in any given season.

reminds me of Mike Shanahan getting fired by the Broncos back in the day. The guy has won how many super bowls, now all of a sudden he can’t coach?

Was stunned when Highsmith ran him down from behind on Sunday night on a scramble. I’d say his time is definitely near an end.

This is also why they are paid well. They can be fired on a dime.

It’s not the ‘talent’ on the sidelines, it’s the talent on the field.

I think Tom Brady proved that........................
