While beef is expensive everywhere, Publix is far higher than the other 4 places I grocery shop.
I love my Publix buy I really have to watch what I buy.
Buying beef there is out of the question.....I CAN afford it, but it's the principal.

Trump has managed to slow inflation to a great extent. Gas is cheaper. Eggs are cheaper. Lots of stuff is cheaper now than it was under Biden.
What isn’t cheaper? Beef.
And so the news media wants to talk about beef, beef, beef, beef and more beef.
The reason supermarkets are charging these prices is because people are paying the amounts, plain and simple.
Wait for the sales, buy extra. Stock up and freeze.
Just bought some standing rib roasts at Food Lion for 8 something a pound. Into the freezer they went.
Since I was a teenager, Publix was considered the “rich” supermarket. Once Food Lion, Albertsons, and Winn Dixie disappeared from central Florida, Publix was all that was left, so we acclimated to the prices. Aldi in our area is pretty unsavory (disgusting produce conditions, dirty store aisles, and questionable meats), leaving few other options for chain grocers.
The wife and I go to a local market to buy our produce, and a butcher one town over sources all of their meat from a farm in north Florida. Despite having to shell out a few grand for a half cow, the overall price comes out to about $13/lb., and we have 200+ lbs. of beef that lasts us 6-8 weeks.
We’re shelling out on average a little over $300 a week for the two of us, but we only eat whole food. If you want to eat out of bags, boxes, and cans, you can stock up for months from one trip to Costco, but our health is more important.
Ok, so Prime is the best USDA grade but that’s still a pretty penny.

I say this as I make a reservation from 2 at flemings for their porterhouse for two special next tuesday. If I never have to buy meat at grocery store, it doesn’t bother me that much.
I bought our 3.8 pound beef tenderloin this year for $146 at Publix. The binging boob at the meat counter wrote down my order 3 days before Christmas on a piece of butcher paper. When I showed to pick up, it wasn’t ready. Had to wait over an hour. It was Christmas Eve and I had no time to go elsewhere. I sent a complaint and got back a form letter that promised to “do better.” Will do additional training blah blah blah.
My favorite cookies used to be from Publix: toffee espresso. Not sure if they’re still sold; we haven’t been there in a very long time.
We rarely buy beef any more. I’m not an economist, but it seems that if we stopped buying, prices would decrease. IDK if true.
I buy my steaks at Publix because, even at the higher prices, their meats are just better (more quality control).
That said, because of the higher prices, I eat less steak.

BUT, if you are the illegal invader paying with an EBT card (FKA food stamps), $25 a pound for a bone-in ribeye is no big deal.

Granted, $50/lb is outrageous, but you are looking at their best cut of meat, prime grade, under their “Greenwise” label. As for us two, we economize by getting an 8oz. Tenderloin and dividing it between us, making sure we have a side dish or salad to help fill. If we want more meat, braised chuck roast can be phenomenal if you know how to make it.
The prices may be higher than other stores, but the workers there are pleasant, knowledgeable, and kind, and the stores are CLEAN and orderly.
I don’t have a Publix anywhere near me. The closest one is a 3 hour drive each way. However, if Publix ever acquiesced to my inquiries, I’d be happy to drive an hour away just to have the privilege of shopping there.
Whenever I’m down South, I’m the first one to offer to do the grocery shopping if it’s to a Publix. It is where shopping is a PLEASURE.
I checked out Publix when it came to Virginia, and it was way overpriced then!
Plus the bakery was not good- 2 things that matter to me in grocery. Meat and bread, haha.
As a low-end landlord I can tell you one reason. All those EBT cards and government giveaways for food are used to purchase premium meat for resale at cents on the dollar. This is how the receivers of government largess get the money for cigarettes, beer, drugs and lotto tickets. I had a renter who told me she’d had no solid food for six months, just beer. Her refrigerator had two giant stacks of steaks and one stack of beer cases. When she moved out in the summer without telling me, just ahead of the cops, she took the beer and left the meat. With the power off. In the summer.
