Planning and prepping for starting my onion seeds at the end of the month.
Then I’ll be doing a little more planning with cold weather crops, figuring out germination times and then dates to maturity, so I can get them out late enough to not be killed by the weather, and early enough to avoid a bunch of pests.

Here’s a new challenge for me. Because I was so late going out to buy my annual Christmas tree, the only trees left were the little tabletop potted ones at Wal-Mart. Mine is still surprisingly healthy-looking.
I’ve been sparing (but not stingy) with watering it. What I want to do is keep it alive, re-pot it in spring, transition it to the outdoors, and see if it’ll survive year-to-year. If anyone has any knowledge on the subject, I’m all ears. Many thanks — AFB-XYZ

When my cousin returned from grocery shopping yesterday, her cat came out to greet her from the Igloo Cooler cat shelter I made for him, so he’s using it. Success!! :-)

The past week here in Central Missouri has been wet and unseasonably warm. Temps have dropped over the past couple days but still barely freezing at night. I'm extremely annoyed that my sore back is keeping me from getting outdoor chores accomplished during this nice weather.
I'm going to make an attempt at cutting and removing the dead fronds from my new asparagus bed this afternoon. After that bit of cleanup is done I need to flag the spots that need new crowns, sprinkle some Preen, then lay down a few inches of compost on the entire bed. Wish me luck.

We are dreaming that it may get up to zero. 44 below in town this morning and 26 below here. They want it to warm up Thursday. I hope that doesn’t mean snow!
