I have not had much time to write for American Thinker lately because we had to put a governor back in her box after her special session shenanigans. When the regular Oregon legislature session rejected the most significant tax increase in Oregon’s history, the Oregon governor, Tina Kotek, took it upon herself to call for a special session to pass the Transportation Tax package, a $4.3 billion naked wealth grab from the taxpayers of Oregon. Kotek dragged in a cancer patient in a wheelchair and an extremely ill legislator who had not gone to the capitol for months to secure the passage of this blatant theft of Oregonians’ money.
But a funny thing happened on the way to making HB3991 and HB3992 law. A referendum was proposed and submitted that, after the governor signed the bill for the cash, if enough petition signatures were collected, the bill would have to be stopped and put on the ballot so Oregonians could vote on the tax. Knowing this, Kotek delayed signing the bill until the very last days, robbing the petitioners of valuable time to gather the 78,000 signatures needed to force the tax onto the November ballot.
A Herculean effort went on throughout the state of Oregon. Petition sheets were printed, distributed, and places to sign were highlighted on social media. Once the petition sheets were in-hand, the process began in earnest. Local signing events were mobbed, with people sometimes standing ten-deep to sign the petition against the transportation tax. People worked tirelessly, and in three weeks, 193,000 signatures were gathered and submitted to the Oregon Secretary of State in the first drop of the petition process—and the next batch of petitions is being counted and made ready for another drop.

The pencil neck.
Exactly.
Oregon has been californicated by california trans-plants.
Kotex?
Hardeharr...
Dear Lord Jesus, please stop this wicked scheme in its tracks.
Amen.
If those petitions are anything like they are in California - the “officials” will claim there are too many fraudulent signatures and not enough “real ones” to honor the petition - and all of it will be tossed out.
Happened twice when Los Angeleans were trying to recall idiot , pro-criminal DA George Gascon, who was eventually defeated at the ballot box by (Thank God) Nathan Hochman.
Remember, it’s who counts the ballots that determines the outcome of elections - or in this case, petitions.
No, we did not...fraud elected her.
Well...if it is like other recent petitions the GOP had its act together and double checked them before submitting. (I participated, so I know they can do it.)
I’m old enough to remember when the Oregon legislature was in session every other year. Legislators were presumed to be in their districts. learning what might be good to propose as law, in the off year.
The tall one. Her “wife” is an alcoholic nutjob.
“That’s the case with pretty much every western state.
Like Colorado.”
I moved to Denver from Texas in 76. Been moving west ever since, staying ahead of the rot. I’m now about 45 miles east of Utah and things are great but I’m running out of “good” Colorado so hopefully it will stay good here for as long as I last.
I believe it’s the blue cities that vote for these ultra liberal candidates. The folks in the rural areas tend to vote more conservative. There’s a reason more conservatives live in the rural areas.... I, for one, can’t stand having to go into a city! The traffic, the rudeness you don’t find in the small towns.
Yep, I’m in a small town. Took a little walk yesterday, it was very quiet, I only saw 3 people. Each of them exchanged a “Merry Christmas” with me. Two of them spoke first, and I didn’t know any of them.
I sympathize with you. As a Vermonter, folks assume I must be a liberal because our state nearly always elects Democrats and radicals. In fact, most rural Vermonters lean conservative.
Unfortunately, the larger population centers of Burlington, Brattleboro, and Montpelier vote left wing by 80-20 or more.
Oregon has been destroyed by generations of the California diaspora and their offspring. They concentrate in the Willamette Valley and have become the citizens who drive this state. The rest of us are their subjects.
You might be tempted to think that gathering 200,000 signatures could represent a change in thought, but I believe the minds of these citizens cannot be penetrated. Here in Central and Eastern Oregon we are pretty much irrevant.
How is the eastern session movement going?
Excuse me a plurality, that better.
Apparently the 53% or certainly a good portion of them DGAF, and are happy to be ruled by the 47%
Yup like rats who have soiled their nest theu move on to a new location and soil it
I don’t know much about that. We live in Deschutes County, which includes Bend, and suffers from an eruption of the disease infecting the valley. Our church is in Crook County, which joined the session movement. If legislatures in Central and Eastern counties would again walkout to prevent a quorum in Salem, maybe the state would decide it would be better off without the counties.
How much economic activity do these secessionist counties hold
