Just wondering if any other Freepers are spending this Christmas Eve solo. Just my trusty greyhound and me here, settled in for a relaxing evening with a latte, Ralphie Parker and George Bailey.
Anyone else flying solo tonight?
Well of course.
Not interested in hanging out with drunks, or dealing with angry cops, crowds.
Going to bed early.
Prayers up for your husband, and for you.
My wife has been battling multiple myeloma for 6 years, and earlier this year I was so afraid it was the end. I prayed hard that she'd live to see our 10th anniversary just a few days ago, and she did, and she's still with me on this Christmas. For that I am so grateful.
But the chances of another Christmas together are frankly pretty slim. I'm praying every day that she hangs in there, but at the same time, the side-effects of this latest last-chance chemo regimen have been horrific. She declined to continue it a few weeks ago, and they're just going to monitor the blood test numbers to see how the cancer progresses. There's not much else to do but pray, so pray is what I do.
Congrats on your 43rd, and may God grant you and your husband more to come. God Bless and Merry Christmas.
After Christmas Eve dinner with 5 grandkids and 7 adults in our house, I’m enjoying some quality alone time.
I’m alone because my wife of 39 years passed away last January.
However, I’m expecting a visit from her niece, twelve hours from now. She lives on the other side of this city.
At a Christmas Eve gathering with 65 relatives and friends. I often envy those who get to celebrate peacefully soo, but am very thankful to have such a large gathering as well.
Merry Christmas to all.
❤️
Every year.
My family has been gone for more than 20 years.
Hubby passed this last May. No dog or cats. We have our wonderful memories don’t we? I celebrate those.
Just finished reading all the posts. Those of you who have lost spouses have touched me deeply. Mine gone since May but not really gone. We were so close we were like one person. And now half of me is gone. Gone but not forgotten, gone but still here in a way. Having faith in Christ I lean on that and believe we will be together someday. Thank you all for sharing. Christmas Peace and Joy be with you all.
Yes, and today as well.
Just the dogs and some laundry for company.
Merry Christmas and God’s blessings to all
Any time with your mom is precious. Maybe after she has passed your sibling will realize that. Bless you for being such a good son.
Thanks. Dementia is a terrible thing to have to deal with as it gets worse. She gets a lot of help from the nursing staff. I just try to be there to let her know that I haven’t forgotten her. She’s in and out of psychosis on an almost daily basis but the Rexulti is finally kicking in.
Spent the afternoon with the missus, who is in long term care for dementia resulting from a COVID vaccine reaction. Now at home with the PC and TV. Beer in the fridge, flaky pastry hors d’oeuvres in the oven, and a small steak and a sweet potato for supper.
Bless you for being so good to your Mom!
Don’t pay any attention to that sibling nonsense.
I am very fortunate that my older brother and I did
not fight about anything while taking care and visiting
my Dad who had dementia.
My “Bro” (as he calls himself) was and still is my rock
as is my beloved husband of 42 years.
I truly believe that deep down, your Mom knows you are there.
I think my Dad did knew I was there with him, too.
God bless you, and Merry Christmas!
Dayglored, thank you so much for those very kind words. I read them earlier today and had you and your wife on my mind today and lifted you both up in prayer while I was out for a much needed walk. This really is a very hard journey. May God bless you both.
Glad you liked that Blackmore's Night song, it gets a lot of airplay in my home this time of year.
I have a trove of other Christmas songs like it, songs that you would never hear on a radio station or a shopping mall. It is a mystery to me why the same twenty or so "contemporary" Christmas songs get played incessantly year after year when there is such a wealth of great Christmas music out there.
